The Idea
Obsidian Portal is a content management site for tabletop role playing games. Rather than trying to automate the playing of the game, Obsidian Portal provides tools to help manage your game and your gaming group. Chronicle your adventures, track your NPCs, schedule your sessions, keep in contact with your group, and tons more. Ditch the notebook. You don’t need it anymore.
The Mission
We want to make Obsidian Portal as much a part of gaming as the pencils and dice. Wanna play a game? Then get your books, your friends, your dice, and your Obsidian Portal wiki. Only then are you ready to play.
The Team

Micah Wedemeyer – Co-Founder
Micah started playing D&D in the early 90’s, and he’s been hooked ever since. In 2006, after trying all kinds of different generic content management systems to manage his D&D game (blogs, wikis, forums, etc), he sat down and decided to make his own. He drew on his own experiences as a DM, making the tool he needed. Then, he took a guess that others would need the same things. That’s how we got here today.
Micah has a BS in Computer Science from The University of Iowa, and an MS in Computer Science from Georgia Tech. He’s an expert in Ruby on Rails, competent in running a small business, and also pretty good with juggling and a yo-yo. He has killed plenty of characters, but never a player, and thinks there’s nothing wrong with giving the BBEG a few extra hit points if it makes the encounter more fun.

Ryan Felton – Co-Founder
Ryan got introduced to D&D late in his life by Micah while attending The University of Iowa. Unfortunately Ryan hasn’t found a gaming group after his college years given his travels moving around the United States. Still, he knows his way around running a website better than anyone, and knows what it takes to make something both useful and usable. Ryan makes sure that Obsidian Portal is always using the bleeding edge technology, since it gives him a chance to play with the latest tools in a real-life environment to bring the best experience of playing table-top games in this digital age.
Ryan has a BS in Computer Science and Mathematics from The University of Iowa, and he’s pursuing his MBA from The University of Missouri Kansas City.

Jerry LeNeave – Content Director
Jerry joined Obsidian Portal in January of 2011, setting in to fill the big shoes of Dan Albright and bring his own brand of enthusiasm and devotion to the team. He’s an avid blogger, and voice in the RPG community on Twitter as well as an Obsidian Portal enthusiast. He resides in Indiana where he, his Wife and 2 minions game together on a regular basis. At 14 he was given a PC for “schoolwork” and from this, an obsession with D&D stemmed ever outward starting with an inconceivable number of hours spent playing Baldurs Gate, the rest is history.
During the day he works for a non profit as an IT Technician / Web & Social Media Specialist / Network Admin and too many other titles to fit onto a business card. Jerry has an AAS in Computer Science & Networking and will be pursuing his Bachelors in 2012 or starting anew entirely by returning to school for game design or journalism, all depending on where the random die roll of life happens to fall next.

The Tech
Obsidian Portal is built from the ground up in Ruby on Rails. We’ve got traditional infrastructure like MySQL and Apache coexisting with more exotic tools like MongoDB and Redis. We’ve also got a sprinkling of cloud in there too, in the form of Amazon S3/Cloudfront. Basically, we try to cut through all the hype and hyperbole to find the tool that’s best for us and our users.
