House Van Lieber

"Wait and See"

House Symbol:  A Stalking Wolf

Capitol: Lieberton

Lands:  The Southern Reaches

History: Bastion Van Lieber secured his place among the High Nobility by turning the tide of the Rebellion by joiing in the Battle of Mulberry Grove.  Some of his peers criticized his late entry into the Rebellion and argued that, had he joined earlier, the largest and bloodiest battle of the war would have never needed to be fought.  This cemented his house's reputation as opportunistic.  The early years of the House were spent like most others: in border disputes, resource disputes, trade disputes, and quelling what remained of the Xorian rebels.  Bordering only the royal lands and those of House Ostmund, the vast majority of the House's early disputes were of the southern mines along the Ostmund border.  As years passed, and boundries were solidified, this scuffle became more about resentment than bloodshed and years of peace passed.

People and Culture:The citizens Van Lieber lands are a hard-working lot who enjoy a good celebration but are mindful of consuming to excess.  While not particularly religious, they do pay lip service to The Church and attend the great holiday celebrations.  The great variety of terrain in the Southern Reaches means that a wide variety of professions have developed in different lands.  From the southern mines to the western ports and the northwestern rocky forests, the peasants of the House tend to be a rugged and independent lot.  Their typical dress is utilitarian and colors tend to be browns and greys.  Many of them share the same disdain for mages and magic that their baron does.  Bastion is well-liked amongst his citizens and the populace hopes his sons are wise and true inheritors to the Van Lieber name.
