As long as you (all inclusive) have a good trust for each other and a sense of the dramatically appropriate, then I have a hunch you’ll all have a ton of fun no matter what rules you’re using. Still, looks nice.

IceBob I being a player in the campaign Yanos’ gem was also worried about the chance of a lowly goblin destroying my characters limbs. But I know My GM and if anything like that senario would happen it would be the GM’s judgemant not to allow that to happen. I like the Table, and we as a group had the opportunity to impliment the System. We were able to resolve the crits fast and efficiently. I also like the Idea that only half the crits are expanded the rest are resolved normally. Sorry if some of this stuff is segmented or not spelled right I’m at work and watchin for my boss.

Thanks for the input Icebob! I do feel that you have a point with the CR being closer to the PC’s, but regardless if I (DM) roll more times in a given session than the PC’s the chances of rolling such a hit remain the same. Roll a threat, roll 11 or 12 on a d12, then a 4% chance of actually “destroying” a limb, not removing it. You may use the table for your own use and feel free to modify it to your gaming style. It’s nice to see players so excited for a game to start. I look forward to seeing the write-up of your first session.

One thing to consider for the expanded critical hit system is that any such rule set tends to work against the players in the long run – as they are subject to far more attacks, and therefore a greater statistical likelihood of criticals than monsters/NPC’s. Would simple healing spells be able to restore damaged or severed limbs, or would a spell like regeneration be needed to reattach an arm?

In my experience, as cool as expanded critical systems are, they can break up the dramatically heroic nature of combat – when an inappropriate critical from a goblin lops off the 7th level rogue’s arm at the elbow. My suggestion therefore, is that monsters and NPC’s only get to roll on that table when their challenge level is close to that of the PCs (no more that two less).

Still, I have to say that I like the table, and I’d like your permission to borrow it for potential future use.

I see you’re putting a lot of work into your campaign. That’s great!

One small step that could help make things look a little nicer is to choose a URL-friendly slug. Right now the url is www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/492 If you choose a URL-friendly slug, you can pick a better-looking one than “492”, say like “yanos-gem” or something.

It’s easy to do, just click the little edit icon next to the campaign name and there should be a text-field for choosing the slug (it might be called “URL-friendly name” or something similar).

Anyways, just something to think about, and good luck with your campaign. Your players look really excited.

(Note: Even if you choose a new slug, the old URLs with 492 will still work fine, too.)
