The Lantern's Fading Light

April 30, 2012 01:44

Grungul Lungrinson and Starrika Grungulsdotr were doing their best to shore up the defenses of The Lantern, in case the beastmen returned upon their hunt. The sons of Suderberg had departed the coaching inn in an effort to defeat the beastmen and save more of the village, although she wasn’t really sure if she expected them to succeed.

A hand running through thick brown tresses, the girl tried to help but all she could think of was her brothers. And the fact that the beastmens’ path into the village would have led them straight past her home. The thought set her on edge.

The boys had left her here so that she would be safe. They didn’t think her competent. She’d show them. And maybe get a smile from her woodsman when he saw what she’d done. Among the corpses of the beastmen, she found an old and rusty sword.

No one was looking. So Alette Riese slipped away from The Lantern, and into the night. She could fight just as well as any of them. And her family wasn’t safe, she had to see to them. So she made her way down the road through the village, minding the fires the beastmen had lit and keeping an eye out for bloodthirsty strays with her back to The Lantern.

All the while, she prayed to Sigmar that the only reason her brothers hadn’t come for her yet was that they were busy successfully defensing the family stead from savage creatures bent on slaking their twisted lusts upon human flesh.
