NEWS: Just had a session last night (Feb 26th) and I wrote two posts today on the happenings. Some eventful things happened, so read up on what happened with Durgyn, Landen, and Sapphira in the Bell Tower!
DM thoughts on the Adventure so far:
This book certainly leaves you with a lot to work with, and expecting to bell tower to be a very dynamic battle, I think I let my players down by not sizing the area up to be twice as large as the book presents it. The way it had the bell tower mapped, it was too tight for an adventuresome battle.
One thing I do love about this book, is the free range it offers to you and your players. There is a suggested order of events, but the book clearly states that things may not go this way depending upon your players actions. I’ve enjoyed the fact that they’ve been finding their own route in the happenings of Brindonford, and it’s offered their character backgrounds to have a lot of influence on the adventure. They’ve barely followed the ‘mapped course of things’ so far, but with the way the book presents the places and events to the DM, it doesn’t matter! It still flows!
In my opinion, I certainly did a much better job DMing my previous adventure, that was completely designed by me (too bad my players had to die so soon… there was much more sweetness on the way). I think it was more fun for me and the players, but as long as I don’t let this book lead me and the players into another poorly thought out situation, things should go well. I’ve found that for my style, running through a book is a little more difficult as a DM. Of course, it could just be the style of this book too.
I plan to counter attack this slight shortcomming of the book from now on, so be ready for things to get better in our next session!
