People may need to check their schedules since school is in session and such. That would mean Eric will be leaving sooner and I think Justin has school, thus people may need to leave at different times. It may be bad for gaming if a particular character leaves in the middle of something since the person has to go home early. So, people will need to check whether they will be able to play on a weekly basis or once in every while.
Personally, I am OK with the hall or your dad’s house on Monday nights. I haven’t been to yours before, so I can’t comment on that. But my schedule may change when I get a job somewhere.
Okay, so I know we haven’t gamed in a few weeks, and I’m not sure how often people check this anymore, but it’s still the easiest way to get info out to everyone in the group.
On Monday when I cancelled last minute I wrote my dad an E-mail because, Monday’s at the hall are just not working for us with the kids. My dad has been great by taking the kids, but he normally doesn’t leave until after 8, and that still leaves us with 2-3 hours with munchkins running around the hall. Especially now that Patrick can climb out of his playpen, at least Steph, and possibly myself (if the kids decide to bolt in two different directions) will be out of commision until my dad takes the kids.
So I talked to my dad and he said he’ll take care of Monday nights. So now I pose this dillema to you guys. When we first moved Monday nights from our house to the hall we told people we might move it back if it didn’t work out. So that is what I would like to do. However I would fully understand if people didn’t want to drive all that way (I know it would be a trip for Will and Calvin) and I would fully understand if everyone else wanted to keep gaming on Mondays at the hall, and we’ll rejoin you guys once the kids get a little older and can entertain themselves at the hall. Also I know that some people might suggest gaming at my dad’s house, and this is a possiblity, the only reasons why I would like to avoid this is, first it is easiest to take care of the kids at our house and second that Brooke has been a good sport and gone out to the hall, but she lives about 25 miles from us, and so has been going about 45 miles every week to the hall. And truth be told I feel kind of bad, because we originally started gaming with her in Ontario, and then she had to start driving out to our house, then we moved it to the hall, so if we’re going to move it, I’d like to move it back closer to her since we keep moving it away from her.
Also I would be lying if I didn’t say that in general it wasn’t more convenient for us (Steph and I) so we would bribe people with home baked meals. (We can make homemade pizzas for around $1 a piece, so really it would be Staph doing the bribing.) That way if we still wanted to give money to help the hall, we could just take the $5 dinner money and donate that, so we’re not just completely abandonning my dad.
Any thoughts questions or rants about this?
Aight, so I won’t be at gaming this monday, because Ken in going to be in San Diego for some kind of conference, so Steph and I will be meeting him down there. Sorry all.
no I refuse! Yeah of course I saw Will’s post, and I have no problems with whatever.
Just throwing this out there as it is up to you guys and Jay to decide when, but I have a new system I’d like to test play sometime within the next month is there a Monday either DM would like to take a break and the players willing to try something new? a brief and skeletal outline of the game and system is up under my profile.
Well the boon of wind’s freedom specifically mentions the user as being able to fly. You cannot make someone else or an object fly. You can carry stuff while you fly though. So you have one of two ways of making this happen. 1st – would be to make your own boon for the sky purview that would allow you take make objects or other people fly. (Although this is very possible I’ll tell you right now that although you could make it as a fairly low level boon, in order to make something the size of a corvette fly that cost would be extreme!) The 2nd is just wait till your epic strength is high enough and you can carry your ship. This is not very useful though, but if you really wanted to, you could!
An easier way to make this happen would be through the water purview. Because then you could just effect the water and allow things to slip through it as easily as air. It would stil be costly to effect an area large enough for the corvette, or it would be a fairly high level boon to effect an one object, but yet again it can be done. You guys are all on your way to becoming gods after all.
basically the only way to make that work is if you actually just gave the ability to fly, because the boat relies on the friction to move, as does just about anything else that moves. So if you use the air boon to just get rid of the friction than it would just sit there, frictionless but not moving.
But if you just wanted to have it fly then that would be up to Jay and it would be powered by another source completely. Meaning the boat itself can not move itself unless there is the friction of water. If you take a boat motor out of the water it doesn’t fly away…
eric i told you not to go there. you put people in water. so i get to put your boat on the ground. by your logic… if you remove the water the boat does not move at all. the ability fails and your character blows up in a fireball. your using half physics to apply to your ability.
hahahaha that made me laugh!
Nahuh it makes sense!
OK so im wondering if i could apply the fly abiltiy from boons to my boat. So by making it fly its speed would not be reduced by the friction between the water and the hull. So thus increasing its speed. An example is that if you gain the flying ability from a boon your speed is normal but if you swam the water doesnt allow you to move as fast because of its friction so by being able to walk you move faster. So by taking the boat out of the water the boat would move faster right?
Eric’s next post on here will be retarded about flying boats
Jessica’s vote is for east, and Gleb has thought better and is voting for west now
ahaha ok jay.
Alex: I actually like the south. Dunno why, but it sounds good. The north sounds like it should be left alone. Going east and solving the Aztec deal is good, but there’s no certainty that we will get allies. As for west, I have nothing really for or against it. The thing with Bob and going south is interesting since it will settle the story with Bob.
Actually Eric the question of how many you can do is best left to either Jessica (Prophecy) or Will (Mystery), all Hildr knows is that she doesn’t know. Sometimes threads of fate are sometimes mutually exclusive and sometimes not. sometimes because of entertwining completing one would make the next easier. Without some amazing insight (I.e. – Prophecy of Mystery), even the greatest of gods (like Njord) don’t know.
i understand i was just saying my father is more important to me. And i think west is the most direct way of preventing ragnarok.
I also am wondering will be able to go down every path or does Hildr not know? And if we could if we did it in a time limit would we be able to go down 2 paths. So basically what im trying to say is are these paths of fate and can only go down 1 or go down 1 and complete it and go down another after or later on?
Gleb wants to go South, but is willing to go in any direction
Everyone try to read the adventure log if you are confused about Joe’s comment about which direction they want to travel. I have a basic scenario set up for each direction, but it would help me design more specifics earlier if I have a concensus. So Joe I know Jes doesn’t have an account, but could you get her input also? I’ll get Steph’s and Brooke’s since they never post anything either.
Joe’s absolutely right I just use him as the example, because he’s the man. Also I use it for even game purposes, because putting something into perspective like the world tree is even so big even Odin is the size of an ant on it, is an amazing analogy!
I vote we go East or West, but I will leave the decision to those who seem to have a little voice in this group as it seems Illya and Gleb make most of the decisions.
its ok I still vote to smite you… jk
srry i was just joking i really dont care. i just noticed he always used odin
dude… really? he was just using Odin as an example. you don’t really expect him to go through and tell us each how big our parents are on that tree do you? the point was not how big out parents are but instead how big the tree itself is. Odin is the all father dude think of king Arthur and the knights of the round table… guess what, Odin is the King.
I say Erik be smitten for his latest comment.
man jay you always use odin in examples and never our parents god dont you get we dont care about Odin! Id like to know how my father would look on the world tree!
Our journey is going to pick up with Steph’s Valkyrie taking you guys for a journey. So no there’s nothing that you guys need to worry about that. As far as the boons go, I’m still not sure. I’ll be reading through the boons for Demi-God word for word over the next week. For the Hero boons, if you want to spend EXP on them, just use (Rating -1) x4 for non god related, or (Rating -1) x3 for go related. I might change this for Demi-God and then God boons based off their power level relative to Epic Attributes.
hey so what have you decided for the cost of boons?
is there anything specific we will be doing to continue our legen-dairy journey? or are you open to ideas or should we be thinking of stuff our characters would want to do?
I was just thinking, and I know last week someone brought up using pantheon specific purviews. As long as you can make a way for it to work, you can use an outside Pantheon’s purview. I will not allow Arete in a combat skill. This makes the game way too lopsided. And in a game where lopsided problems already occur on a fairly regular basis, I do not want to encourage them more.
You just need to find a way to apply it to your character. Either find a way to get an outside deity to teach it to you, or a way that it some how applies to your pantheon. For example, anyone can have this as a freebie. The Norse were very big on stoicism and toughness. Anyone can go for Arete (Fortitude).
Yes, they are still ghosts. The way I’m doing ghosts is that they are tied to a specific place, item, etc. So you guys are now the ones that they are tied too, and also you guys can always see them and communicate with them (I.E. no need to use your death sense.)
those with death such as Erik and Stephanie can still communicate and see my and Nicks ghost, right?
Also as a side not, mostly aimed at Jay. I’ve been really sick these past few days and I haven’t had anytime to get my game ready for Monday. So If I’m not prepared do you think you’ll be able to run your game again this coming Monday? I’ll keep you posted.
The INBT and DFA plans both sound good, but as we both realize time is of the essence and for that reason I think we should go with the DFA plan, because even though I am no expert I can guess with fairly decent accuracy that it would be much easier to get our hands on the C4 then on the military helicopter. Whether we use C4 or a stolen helicopter, we will become wanted in Australia. While I am all for Legendary acts, I would prefer to stick to the Legendary acts that don’t make us public enemies of the country. And while they might view the DFA plan as a terrorist act, it would be much harder to track it to us, then if we stole one of their helicopters. That’s a few more of my thoughts, however if Erik has a formidable helicopter on his corvete, then that changes my vote and I say we take care of it that way. However we will probably have to destroy the helicopter in the outback, as there will probably be little chance of us getting back out of the continent on the helicopter. So I am all for the DFA unless we have our own helicopter in which case I am all for IMBT as that would be our quickest way.
We need to assume that he could have moved from the farm. This is why Zacchaeus wants to move quickly (humans are so hasty…). If the thing has moved, it might be nigh impossible to find him again.
INBT: Honestly, we would only need one chopper because of the armament on just one chopper. Everyone else would be in the back either manning the External Stores/Weapons System (ESWS) because Zacchaeus could figure out how to fly the damned thing very quickly even though he doesn’t have any points in Control (Helicopter) with no penalties. Odds are, this thing will have at least one chain gun as part of its ESWS and at most will have dual 30mm chain guns, dual 7.65mm machine guns, and Hellfire missiles and rockets. At the absolute least, it will have a 20mm GIAT THL 20 turreted gun that the pilot (or even better, co-pilot) will take care of.
If it doesn’t have anything for its ESWS, we can modify the plan by combining it with DFA-2 and carpet bomb the boars. The fliers would use the helicopter as a launching point to drop their bombs and those still in the chopper can also drop bombs and blast the shit out of them using our own guns.
DFA: The main thing we are going to need to do here is figure out exactly how much C4 we are going to need. If we went with this plan, it would be because we don’t want to make a huge show of things. If so, we would need to be able to get our hands on JUST ENOUGH C4 to do what we need to do. We might also want to look into getting some pentaerythritol tetranitrateor or cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine instead of C4 because those are more powerful and are about the same size. They are a little more rare/specialized but will work better than C4. Considering the number of boars and the relative size of that farm, Zacchaeus suggests we use (would have to roll for this because I have no frakkin idea). ((Sorry guys… Zacchaeus does have a MSc in History of Science and a point in Chemistry so I used the full names for PETN and RDX/T4 respectively))
One thing we will have to remember is that if they find traces of C4 or any other military grade explosive, the authorities will automatically start to think terrorist or foreign government. We will need to find a way to hide the signature of C4 (which IRL I don’t think you can do because of the residue that is left behind) or just not care. Yuan Jia wants to find a way to disguise the signature because he doesn’t really want the Australian government to start thinking terrorist before we all try to leave the country.
((I’ll get my brother on Obsidian Portal so that he can throw in his two cents too. Could you get Nick to throw in his ideas on this, Justin?))
Illya agrees with any plan that does not involve Bob. The DFA plan seems like we can execute it the quickest and if we can carry it off without using any kid of helicopter that would be safer as we don’t know if there is any kind anti aircraft protection in the farm. If we can just get our hands on a few bricks of C4 we can take care of this farm within one day.
Jorgan believes both plans would work amazingly, the choppers sound a little more fun to him then the C4 because he would be flying one of zed choppers, and its just badass. C4 would be a fine alternative and i have a couple points in larceny so maybe id be able to, Or see if i already have some of my ship.
Bob says, “your plans are very well thought out, but do these helicopters have cookies?”
Zacchaeus is a little up in the air on the matter. He doesn’t really trust “Bob” but is willing to agree with him unless someone is able to come up with a plan to take care of the boars and “fire giant” (still not convinced yet that the thing is a fire giant) and fast. Right now, the invisible cruise missile idea is the best that Zacchaeus has heard but he is willing to listen to other ideas, which is why he suggested that “Bob” give them a day to think things over.
That being said, he does have a couple ideas that he wants to throw out there. The first is called the “I Need to Borrow This” plan (INBT). We do have a person that has access to military aircraft and military bases. This plan involves going in and getting our hands on an attack chopper or two and using them to blow the shit out of the boars. Knowing-it-all, Zacchaeus remember reading that the Australian military uses the AH-60L / S-70 Battle Hawk (the newest incarnation of the Black Hawk). This is the chopper that I say we go for because it is pretty and can carry everyone in the group. This plan is relatively intricate. It requires that we manufacture a black ops mission or training mission and replace the original pilot of the chopper with me. We then “borrow” the chopper, fly it under radar and proceed to get ourselves some “boar on the barbie” with a side of “hot sauce” (blown up fire giant).
The second plan is called “Death From Above” (DFA). This plan involves getting our hands on a few blocks of C4 and rigging them to a remote detonator. There are two ways we can accomplish this plan. The first (DFA-1) is to try and lure the boars into an ambush of some kind and blow them up that way. The second (DFA-2) is to use our fliers and essentially carpet bomb the boars to Hel. Those who can’t fly can come in afterward and clean up the mess.
There are pros and cons to each plan and I am not going to go into all of them because there are too many and I have no desire right now to type them all out. I will write out a couple of them though.
INTB: Pro – once we get our hands on that chopper, the boars are done for. Plus, think of how badass it would be to steal a state of the art attack chopper from the Australian military. Legendary much?
Con – it’s gonna be damned hard to get our hands on that chopper. Once we do, we are also going to need to turn off its GPS/Lojack system.
DFA: Pros – by far the easier of the two to get the necessary items for. We have someone who has connections (ie has points in Larceny) to find us the C4 on the black market.
Cons – Puts us into a bit more danger because if we don’t set the stage well enough, the boars can still charge us. Not nearly as Legendary.
One thing that Zacchaeus wants to point out is that speed is of the essence. We need to be able to kill these things in the next couple of days because there might be some supernatural way to move these boars somewhere else and he doesn’t want to risk any mortal lives.
Now, Zacchaeus has put in his Holey dollar (Australian pre-decimal coin).
lol, by the way you can delete the first post of mine that is a duplicate.
Bob says, “all good points, but you should still come to the dark side we have cookies!”
So since we left jay last week with a bit of a cliff hanger as to what our next action will be I suggest we discuss it here. And come to a decision so jay can plan the next adventure accordingly. I will begin by throwing my two cents in
So last week we left of deciding whether to work with Bob or not, and unlike everyone else in the group my character was extremely adamant against working with him. Now if the majority of the group makes the decision to work for the guy than I will have no choice, as I was told by my mother to stay and work with the group, however I will make an argument as to why we should not work for Bob.
Reason #1: Illya is extremely honest, as demonstrated by the fight with the fire giant when he said “Unfortunately we are going to have to kill you now.” So Illya expects the same honesty and forwardness from those he works and travels with he does not tolerate deception, lies, or any amount of shadiness. He is extremely loyal and does not want to give it away blindly (hahaha get it… blindly).
Reason #2: Bob is obviously not his real name, Jay told us that when we first met him. #3: he knows shit about us (huge red flag) yet he won’t share basic information about himself. #4: he Followed us to Australia!!! Whether he was tracking the boars or not does not matter to Illya, as he is obviously tracking us, and apparently recording our conversations. #5: we can destroy the farm without an invisible cruise missile.(granted it may take a bit longer) #6: Non of our parents mentioned him at all #7: Erik’s guide, although crazy, did not mention him #8: He won’t tell us what the relic is for. #9: capturing this relic can take up our precious time, when instead we can be preventing or changing the outcome of Ragnarok #10: Why does he need to go to an outside pantheon to get help in retrieving an artifact that is purely the affairs of the dodekathon? Why not recruit Greek Scions, who have an interest in it?
So that is my statement. Illya is extremely stubborn as expressed through his 8 will power and 4 integrity. While Illya may not know what Bob is lying or not lying about, anyone with a one intelligence can notice that something is shady about this dude. So Illya’s vote is a huge NO. Also the trust and honesty goes for everyone in the group, if Illya finds that anyone is ever compromising the success and safety of those he considers his friends, he will not stop until he has brought them to justice. When trust, loyalty, and honesty are considered there is no gray area at all for him.
Just a thought, we should really figure out a way to make initiative and actions simpler so combat doesn’t take so long, and figure out a way to work opening gambit. I was thinking having it just give them a ridiculous bonus to successes, like 5 or 6 and having the maximum clicks in a round be like 12 or something, but I just came up with that right now, and didn’t put much thought into it, just an idea to get thoughts flowing..
Alright I also noticed some players had problems with stunts (myself among them) so I’m posting the exact wording from the book and I advise everyone to go over it. (yes, I’m even forcing Stephanie to read it.)
Stunts grant a special sort of bonus. You aern this bonus when you describe your character’s action in a fun and engaging way. The Storyteller might award this bonus because your daughter of Athena just did something right out a Jackie Chan picture or because your description grabbed everyone’s attention.
Like normal bonuses, stunts range from one to three dice. The Storyteller adjudicates the value of the stunt. The most basic stunt adds a bit of color to the game, filling out the scene for everyone at the table in a fun way. Doing so adds one die to the dice pool. A one die stunt also broadens the definition of what is possible a little bit. The cooler you look the better you are.
Example: Promethues Adams drops the musty old book on the table with a loud thump, then adjusts his glasses as it falls open to a very interesting page.
Okay in the book it goes on more, but here’s the jist of it. All you need to do is describe your actions in an interesting way to get that one die stunt. So you can get these whenever you want to your just have to put forward the effort of describing your actions more then the basics like I punch the giant, or a research the information at the library.
To get the two die stunt you also have to interact with the setting in a relevant way. Or at least that’s the description they use. Unfortunately you can’t really interact with your setting using occult or awareness. So I’ll use these very rarely or else people who don’t do physical acts would be at a severe disadvantage.
Last is the three die stunts. They are indefinable. If everyone around the table sits around and says “Wow” then you get the three die stunt.
So originally I read it as to being something extraordinary, but it can be a very ordinary action described in a cool way. You just need to put forward the effort to describe it.
If I did slip and say two thing it was a mistake. There was only the tusk. According to the book you can use the hide also, but I don’t want to make it a game of harvest the organs, so while you can get trophies from the creatures, it will usually be only one from a certain target, unless the creature is extraordinarily powerful (Like the giant).
So I just realized that Jay said that there were two things about the pig that could be useful to us. One was the tusk. What was the other?
its restricted to the base attribute and can’t be higher then your legend score -1
IDK if this is true but one the quick reference guide it says that epic attributes are s restricted to the base attribute. Im just wondering if its true or not
You can get boons from any of the all purpose purviews. The only place that you are limited is with the pantheon specific boons. Like Arete for the Greeks. You can only take Arete if your deity has it in that ability. Later on you might be able to find a way to get it, but for character creation you cannot have it.
Can u get boons of other purviews besides your parentsgod?
Um idk if u guys saw but i changed my concept of being a Captain of a Fleet to being a Spec Op
Alright I’m liking the back story people are putting in. Two side notes and don’t worry about correcting it if this kind of stuff is already in your back story, because it’s not really that big of a deal.
First is that the game starts not to long after your first visitation from your divine parent and I will give you a short narration of how that went down, so you didn’t have any previous contact with your parent.
Second is specifically addressing something in Nick’s when he says until Ragnarok happened. This is going to be a Ragnarok game, but much like my vampire game was a gehenna game. It all built towards gehenna, but it lasted like two years. So the game will last for a while before any character even known Ragnarok is close. I just didn’t want anyone thinking that Ragnarok was just around the corner and playing like it was here or that it was in the near future, when even the Gods don’t know how far off it is.
Jay, Jessica is going to have a 5pt relic, her boons are prophecy, magic, and chaos. She is a forensic scientist with knowledges in computers, electronics and robotics (one of her hobbies) as well. Her she is charismatic, very intelligent, witty, and perceptive. In a fighting situation she knows little more then how to use a gun passably. She has done some work lending her experience to police investigation, and doing freelance computer programing or system analysis.
And another note. Please include background info on your character. Place of Birth , job experience (or schooling if you’re still young.) Characters should not be that old (I.E. they should not be older then 25.)
When your divine parent gives you your creatures, relics, etc. There is always a reason for what they choose. So it will come from your back story. If you are a warrior and don’t include a favorite weapon I’ll have to decide that on my own, so make sure your include anything that is important to your character.
@Jay: My character is finalized. I might change the specific sciences in my abilities but as of right now there will no longer be any more changes, points-wise. Can you tell me Zacchaeus’ birthrights?
everything Will’s character doesn’t cover intellectually, Jessica will
She has a 5 int (we haven’t decided if she will also have a 1 or 2 epic Int) and she has one science at a 5 (robotics/electronics) and another at a 3/4 (life science) if she has enough bonus points I think we are also gonna give her a third science of either computers or physics. as far as flying helicopters or airplanes if no one can fly one we’ll just do without (I don’t like flying anyways).
Also, someone who knows something about electronic equipment would be nice…
Guys, we are going to need people who can drive cars and fly planes… Just so people know…
When choosing my sciences, am I limited only to physical and natural sciences or can I also choose social and applied sciences?
Found this cool website it helped me alot with my character
Chris u got a character sheet right the attributes are those 9 stats the circles are your regular points in it u get 18 of them to put where ever u want but u can only have a max of 5 in 1 attribute. The square is epic attribute which is an auto success when u roll on something with that attribute. But you can only have a max of 1 minus your legend score so right now its 2.
I am such a noob. I have NO IDEA what you guys are talking about… Can someone fill me in.
First, The 4 and 5 Point relic would cost a total of 7 bonus points. The 4 pointer would use your base five birthright points (1 for 1 for the first three, then two for the fourth dot) Then the second relic would cost 7 bonus points (1 for 1 on the first thee then two for each the fourth and fifth dot.)
Secondly. I think the reason why they made the distinction between academics and science or control is the level of commitment to the studying to be proficient or an expert. You can get a good overall study of academics in four years of college attending full time (I.E. two dots.) Or you could get a good general knowledge of chemistry working full time for four years (I.E. two dots.) The problem is this same argument is why control shouldn’t have specialties. Because I can learn to fly a helicopter very proficiently (I.E. two dots.) in a few weeks. Where as unless you were an uber genius you could never be proficient in physics after two weeks of classes. I think they just didn’t want everyone flying planes and helicopters. So therefore I offer this…...If you’re interested in basic knowledge of science, a good academics score covers all the basics of sciences. Second if you really want to be very good at a lot of sciences, it’s actually very easy. Your average scientist has about 6 dice. Either a 3 or 4 intelligence and either a 2 or 3 science score. So they will get on average about two successes on a science roll. So having a 4 intelligence and a 1 in the science score with any points in epic intelligence and you are better then the average professional in that field. Even the top of the line guys have on average between 8 and 9 dice so they get about three successes, so with a two epic intelligence you will almost always beat the Stephen Hawkings of the world even with just one dot in the science. So instead of doing one science score with a four then giving you a -2 to everything it would still be easier on everyone just to put one point in four different sciences. Also I’m not going to be a huge stickler on the sciences, there is a lot of overlap and thus scientists normally have a working knowledge of the sciences close to theirs. If you have Science (Physics) I will allow you to roll (at a higher difficulty) on things involving chemistry, mathematics (even if your academics score is low). I will allow someone with Geology to make rolls (at a higher difficulty) on things like Geography, and Ecology.
Hopefully that covers it. Even though I don’t necessarily agree with it 100%, I’m going with the book to start with, and if we notice major problems after playing for a little while then we’ll alter it. I just think it will be easier to tweak the system better once we’ve played a little. I don’t want to reinvent the wheel when even I have never played this exact system before.
So how much points is it to get a level 4 and 5 Birthright
Oh and to counter the argument that Control, etc need specialties, the Academics ability does not require a specialization but it has quite the range of subjects contained in it. It is described as “everything from history to linguistics, literature, theatre and the study of law” or as the “sum of a person’s higher education in the Arts and Humanities”. The thing here is that Philosophy and Law are very different from Sociology and all of these things is very different from Theatre. It can be said that all of these subjects are related as Chemistry is related to Biology is related to Physics, though.
Would it be possible to stay generalized in Science but make any difficulty rolls related to it be… more difficult?
Okay so there was a few more things I left out. First is that you are not supposed to be able to buy relics up to five right away and each rank in them is above four is supposed to be double. I completely forgot about this when explaining on Monday night, but I agree with these since a five point creature is some much more powerful then a three point creature it just makes sense that it is more then twice as expensive.
Also Art, Craft, Control, and Science say they require a specialty. I’m not a huge fan of this, especially for Control (since learning to fly a helicopter or plane proficiently is not all that time consuming or difficult.) Unfortunately I see the wisdom of their ways, since with a two epic intelligence and a one in science would then mean that you are an expert in all areas of science beyond any human ever! So I’m going to go with the book ruling on this one and you have to chose specialties.
I am the uber-intellectual, socially inclined character who can’t really fight worth a dime but can get himself out of almost any situation by talking.
I will be posting my character later tonight so you can see what he can do.
oh yeah and jay if you want I will change my parent god to Tyr so there are more high gods in our group. Tyr most suite my characters personality however it does not matter to me.
Birth rights are only 2 bonus points per rank above 3. Any birthrights 3 or less only cost 1 bonus point per rank.
we still haven’t decided on Jessica’s birthrights but we do know she is gonna be using prophecy and magic. I know prophecy can make it more difficult on the GM because it requires all main events to be planned ahead, so if you don’t want her using it just let me know and we will rethink her boons.
also as a heads up to everyone else so they can get an idea of what kinds of characters are being made. Jessica’s character is going to be a scientist/mystic character, and my character is a tracker/pseudo-fighter/with some stealth skills
Book says that birthrights are 2 bonus points/1 rank and that the 5 points base cannot make a birthright go above 3. Is that how you will be running it?
When dealing with the ‘Science’ ability, do I have to specialize or can I keep it broad?
Okay got another post and hopefully it will be the last of things I forgot to mention.
You can never have a boon or epic attribute equal to or greater then your legend. So since everyone has a three legend starting. You cannot have an boon or epic attribute higher than a two.
Let’s see…...something else that I forgot to mention….....
Make sure when you tell me what purviews you need for your relics, you also mention purviews that you want to buy up. At character creation you might only have fire and health, but if you want war and fertility also, you better mention those, because you can’t just go to the store and buy a new relic. You have to wait for your divine parent to hand another one over, so it might be a while before you get access to another purview.
Okay hopefully that will be it for a while. Any one else with any questions just post them here unless you don’t want the other players knowing, in which case just send me a message.
Okay so here’s the other thing. I’m also adding certain Epic Attributes and Purviews to the Gods and Goddesses. The perfect example is Freyja who is specifically mentioned in Norse Mythology as taking half the dead from the battlefield, and is thought to be the patron Goddess of the Valkyrie, but she does not have a single Epic Attribute or the Death Purview Associated with her. So I added Death and Epic Dexterity to her list of Associated Powers.
I’m just going to give the list for the Gods that matter (I.E. the ones that have Scions in the group.)
Freyja – Epic Dexterity, Epic Charisma, Epic Appearance, Death, Fertility, Health, Jotunblunt, and War
Forseti – Epic Charimsa, Epic Perception, Epic Intelligence, Jotunblunt, Justice, Mystery, Arete (Investigation), and Arete (Integrity)
Njord – Epic Perception, Epic Stamina, Epic Strength, Fertility, Fire, Jotunblut, Sky, War, and Water
Frigg – Epic Charimsa, Epic Intelligence, Animal (Falcon), Guardian, Jotunblut, Magic, Prophecy, and Sky
Thor – Epic Charisma, Epic Stamina, Epic Strength, Guardian, Jotunblut, Sky, and War
Baldur – Epic Appearance, Epic Charisma, Epic Stamina, Guardian, Jotunblut, Sun, and Arete (Fortitude)
Idun – Epic Appearance, Epic Stamina, Epic Perception, Jotunblut, Fertility, Health, and Arete (Art)
Okay on to Knacks. Knacks are special abilities that go hand in hand with Epic Attributes. They are deffinately not as powerful as Boons, but you get one free with every point of an epic attribute. With strength there are some that make you throw much further then a normal person, and others for jumping much further, etc. I’m not going to print them all, because there are quite a few, and they have more in every single book printed for Scion so far. So I will just let people look over them on Monday before we start.
Okay next thing. I know Eric had a very solid concept going for his, but it is really bothering me that so many of the characters are actually children of lesser deities. Out of the8 people, 4 were lesser deities. I would like there to be a majority of major deities in the group. So If one of the people who got a lesser deity would like to switch that would be nice. If no one does then it’s not a big deal.
Also now that I think of it, I need more info on the characters, so can you create a page for them asap when you start to have all the major points for them. Because if someone has a 5 point relic Thor would not give them an Axe if they were an expert marksman. Although the choice is up to your parent as to what they give you, the better equipped you are the better you are at aiding them, so they will grant you something that goes hand in hand with your capabilities.
Okay. First off Guide is just that someone to guide you on your path to shear epicness. Chiron the Centaur is probably the best known guide, but they are the ones that show up and hand you your next quest. The more ranks the more powerful they are, or the more insight they will have.
Next for the bonus points.
You get 15 of them.
An Attribute is 4 points
An Ability is 2 points (unless it is associated with your parent then it is 1.) This can raise an ability above 3 up to a maximum of 5.
A Virtue is 3 points.
Willpower is 2 points.
You cannot raise your legend.
An Epic Attribute is 5 (unless it is associated with your parent then it is 4.)
A New Knack is 3. (Which we did not really go over on monday so I’ll explain in a little bit.)
Boons are 5 (unless it is associated with your divine parent in which case it is 4.)
Spells are 5 (unless it is associated with your divine parent in which case it is 4.)
Just a heads up Chuck Seagal the Scion of Thor will most likely be sporting two rank five relics as his birthrights. i don’t want to specifically look up guide because i kind of like the idea of a slightly more blind character creation. but i did not hear much talk of it on Monday. Can you give me a breakdown of how awesome it is?
Couple questions ok so i know its 4 Bonus = 1 Epic Attribute but can u get regular attributes from bonus or no. And using Bonus Points can your Abilities go higher then 3 or no.
18 Points in Attributes (8/6/4) All attributes receive the one point automatic already filled in on the character sheet. No attribute may be higher then five.
30 Points in Abilities. At least 6 Must be assigned to your Deity’s favored abilities. No ability may be higher then 3.
5 Points of Birthrights. Birthrights are – Creature, Followers, Relic, and Guide.
10 Points of Boons and Epic Attributes.
5 Points of Virtues. Every virtue has one point automatically.
Willpower = the sum of your two highest virtues.
Legend = 3
Legend Points = 9
I’ll include more on the bonus points later, but it’s late and I want to go to bed.
