Excerpt from the Journal of Narissa Skree:
“He did it AGAIN! I am the first born daughter of this house, but by his actions you’d think me nothing more than a fostered cousin. As first born daughter, it is my DUTY and right to prepare and host celebrations. Instead I’m told to assist the WARD. It’s not her fault and The Seven know she’d rather be outside hunting, don’t even get me started on the unfairness of that, but it is insulting to be relegated to assistant to someone who isn’t even of the House and for my own brother’s return feast at that. Father couldn’t even be bothered to attend his son’s feast and welcome him back. My lady mother had to sit up there alone and preside over the feast by herself. I suppose I should be used to Father’s behavior by now, but it still hurts to have him look at me with such coldness and disdain.”

“So my brother comes knocking on my door at an unreasonable hour to tell me that Father will be sending us South for some celebration for some newly appointed Kingsguard. I’m not sure why that would require our attendance but I welcome the chance to leave this hostile environment. He told me to bring my sword; as if I’d leave it behind. I’m not foolish enough to further ruin my family’s reputation by throwing myself into fights, besides I have no desire for the life of a fighter. However, I will not be taken captive easily should someone get past my brother and guards. Aegon says he wasn’t supposed to tell me but that I should be ready when father does. Knowing him, it’ll be at the last moment and he’ll expect me to be ready immediately. He is impossible to please!”
…….
“BANDITS! We were attacked by bandits on the road out of the mountains. Aegon, Endrid, and the guards handled them efficiently and none of ours were harmed. None even came near me, though I had my sword ready just in case. The Maester and I merely stayed to the middle of the road with the merchant while everyone else handled them. While I have no desire to be a warrior, it is still very vexing that Endrid can shot and kill a man and no one gives her a second look, but Heaven forbid I even think to have my sword on me let alone unsheathed. My brother may give me amused glances when he sees my sword, but it can kill a man easily enough if I needed.”
