SITE APPEARANCE AND HOW WE ROLE

Here are the basic rules about the site’s appearance.

Colors-

The color scheme for all pages is dark red=characters, green=items, and blue=places and standard links. You will note that hyperlinks are often not underlined!! I think it makes this a cleaner site.
Note- Before April, 2012, we used red for characters. If you see a red link that I missed, please let me know by pm or on the comments page! Thanks!

Background-

There are 2 backgrounds on this site. One, the hieroglyphs you see on this page, is the general background. The only exception is the ankh background (example). This appears in 2 instances- either for characters or for places of significance to the Church of Light and Dark, or other religions. These places include current locations of the pieces of Osiris. If a piece is recovered by the player group CrIsis the place’s background reverts to the hieroglyph background.

Art-

Artwork is property of the copyright owners. I use the art for 3 reasons, to help convey images, to establish mood, and to promote art I or my players like. Please click on the links given on most pages, or go to the acknowledgements page and support the artists if you like their work!

Parchments-

Since most of the characters, with the exception of Bexx and Chip are from the Palladium fantasy world, my players and I chose parchments for their character logs. Each one is slightly different, and for Bexx and Chip we went with a much more modern look. Along with different paper for the different players, each one has a different font. Here are some examples of many of their logs: Bexx, Cava, Chip, Drauka, Gavin, Overkill, Rell, Roggan, and Tyvernos. For more logs please see either campaigns or character logs.
These parchments are also carried over into the lands that the characters are from, for example Gavin comes from the Timiro Kingdom.

CODES-

A special thanks goes out to one of my former players, Craig Coxson, who has done a lot of the coding on this site. Thanks Craig!!

Be a good neighbor and Portelier! Drop me a PM if you use any of these codes, and please add A God…Rebuilt to your favorites!

Backgrounds-

As discussed above, I use 2 different backgrounds, but the only item that changes in the code is the image itself. I place this near the bottom of each page, just above the buttons code. If you would like the code, please go here.

Buttons-

With the update I used a gold parchment that one of my players, Pandajester added effects to. I place this at the bottom of each page. If you would like the code, please go here.

Navigation Bar-

Keeping with the theme of the buttons, I used the same background, just adding a blurred affect. This, like many pieces on the site, was stolen from the one and only Arsheesh and his Age of Legends campaign. I place this at the top of each page. For the nav bar code, please go here.

Comments Page-

Again, happy to share code. This comes from the great Duskreign- go see his awesome Wyrmshadow Campaign Setting. This code can be found here.

Tables-

It may not be the easiest, or most elegant way- but it has worked throughout the changes that Obsidian Portal has gone through. For anyone that has had their code crash when the site changed hosting services, you know how valuable that it is. This code is here.

CSS-

I have stolen code from a number of people, and Craig did much of the CSS work- but, hey, I am learning… The CSS code that we are using is here.

How We “Role”

This is a sandbox campaign, with the emphasis on player participation. I, as the game master, have given them a basic premise- find the pieces of Osiris, and a world upon which they are located. How they get to each piece, researching where the pieces are, and how to handle the pieces once recovered is up to the players. The players decide who to trust (and put on the allies list), and who not to. They write their own logs, and decisions of where to go next is done by group vote. Many sessions involve far more role playing than roll playing.
