This poor campaign, off to such a strong start and then abandoned like the free promotional materials given to convention playtesters. Maybe it would be best to just get in a chat channel and get the ball rolling in real time. I can always try and be prepared later on. We just need to start freaking RP-ing!

Things are progressing in pieces. As expected, everyone is able to participate to varying degrees. We’re all quite busy, and our time is divided between work, school, family, and other prior commitments. About a third of our players have finished PCs, and I’m sending out PMs to each of them for background and RP. I’m treating each PC like a paintbrush that illuminates empty parts of Heled in broad strokes: Faerie, Mystral, Dwarrowheim, Lavinia, etc., as they move through it.

I’ve been doing a lot of comparisons between virtual table-tops, because I have a series of encounters prepared that would be downright tedious to try and tackle strictly in IRC. But, there’s a bunch of them out there, I have no experience with them, and the nicer looking ones require a substantial investment. Plus, most require each player to join under a client license, which I’m not ready to pay for or ask for. I’m leaning towards MapTool

Which is free and has a large support community behind it. I was really enchanted by Klooge.werks, but after doing a considerable bit of comparison shopping, playing with the downloaded demos, and watching a couple of live demos at Origins, I decided that it would be best to get my feet wet with an opensource VTT. Keep-it-simple-stupid, as the saying goes. Once at least four players have RP’d their way to the same place in Heled, we’ll arrange a day and time to all jack in. I’ve got three potential meetup spots in mind that I’m nudging y’all towards.

I’ve outlined five separate adventures. The first is a fairly linear short run for 4-6 PCs starting at 1st level. The other four can actually be done in any order and are scalable between 2nd and 7th level. So, if people don’t have their characters finished by the first adventure they can join in on the second.

It was great to meet and re-meet some of you all at the wedding – I’m psyched about this game now more than Evah! and that sort of stuff… yeah…

Apologies to everyone, I haven’t been responding to emails or posts. I appreciate getting them, and keep them coming, but I’m in a final-final-final push to get my dissertation improvement grant sent off, help Whitney with the last steps of wedding planning, and get ready to head home tomorrow. After this weekend, I will try to send some feedback on PCs, and after the 18th I can devote much more of my attention to the game. Promise.

Would it be in poor taste to say that if the party is rollickin’ don’t come a knockin’?

Oops – already said it.
