It is believed that long ago, the Northern Wastes was where the demons of the The Elemental Chaos tried to gain a foothold on the mortal realm. The warring and destruction left the Northern Wastes as it is now, still inhabited by demons and other creatures that managed to survive.

The Northern Wastes are divided from the rest of Arcum by the Dragonspire Mountains. The mountain range separates The Northern Wastes from Karrnath.
