As with all the other groups this was sent to promote the guild and get contracts, target area for group 46 was the Cobalt-falls area in south western Kirtap, near Litusen (Always wondered about that name, if the royal cartographer misheard the locals…). The reason for all this is due to our bad relations with local merchants and trading guilds.
Group Report compilation
While group dynamics seems to have been at an all time low the group did succeed above expectation in this area. With only three possible towns to work with they still managed to get one very favourable contract from a blacksmith in North Bumkin and they did basically free work in west Oakly and South havenbrook that seems to have bolstered our reputation in that area. Even if there seems to be lingering rumours of guildmembers stealing silverware, barbrawling and beating children in the area. These rumours are however most likely made up, as similar rumours seem to crop up everywhere adventurers go. My guess is jealous locals that start them.
We now have established rotation to North Bumkin so members do caravan duty and similar work on a regular basis for the elven smith Cera Mics. Smuggling operations are down by 56% in the general area and South Havenbrook is being rebuilt. Also, related to this, it seems a smith from North Bumkin has taken up residence in Eversummer. Due to his very favourable prices he has received many orders in a short period of time, even if there are rumours of inferior work. Wich I’m sure can be blamed on jealous rivals or locals.
Also, regarding the monk Alek, it seems we may need to reprimand him. If further reports of him causing trouble come in we will have no choice terminate his membership. I know Hike has been wanting to terminate more then just his membership for a while and if reports like this one from his partymember are frequent I understand him.
Lastly I may need to have a word with Cake Frosting, the illusionist. His report, even if delicious, was a cake the shape of a gnomes head. Tasty as it was it is difficult to file and store.I believe I could convince him to at least present his reports in boxes so they can be stored in the fridge of holding.
Well as officer Hike has said on numerous occasions, most of our new guildmembers are just walking disasters. Thus “the games” where designed to test our members on individual and group skill. It seems the event also worked quite well for the merchants, especially since GVC took no fees and removed several taxes during the event. A few more of these events and the merchants might just get to like us again. There where many layers to the games. The members could participate in “on stage” activities, being in races, competitions and the likes. Or they could work in help desks, security or whatnot. Afterwards our members would be assigned to teams and forced to go through the new “cave of trials”. overseen by officer veldriss.
The merchants do indeed love the games, We have had merchants come far and wide to sell their various pieces of junk. Sadly the guild wont see a copper of it, and the merchants are likely to forget this gesture at the first sight of problem. But at least we are trying. Most of our guild members did a decent job at the games. Performing above average at sports and such. I even think we got some of the best results in this countries history in the long-jump and 100 meter dash. Some thunder barbarian Goliath I’m told. Well its hard to compare results, and the dwarven league of sprinters constantly complain that unless your carrying 50kg of weights its not a race. We did suffer some humiliation though, the winner of the marathon collapsed on the finishline and then later was involved in the “pie eating incident” (see enclosed report 3269b). I told you that contest would be bad, lots of people just stuffing them selves. you know we avoided disaster by the with of a hair? someone tried to swallow a bag of holding in the hopes of all pies going in there..MADNESS! after most of his internal organs went into the bag he died..ON STAGE! we had to gut him, remove the bad, and then resurrect him. Note that we didn’t figure this out until after a few failed resurrections. But this wasn’t our largest problem, It seems that some 76.234523% of those who did other tasks then participating in sports failed somewhat horribly. Unable to assist visitors, general lack of respect, lacking ability to communicate with team, this is just the tip of the iceberg of the performance reports. I immediately threw the worst of the lot out of the guild, the ones I felt might redeem them selves where sent to the cave.
In an attempt to delegate work I put officer Veldriss in charge of the cave, but I’m somewhat unsure as to how it went as I have yet to receive any written report, when asked she just said “the ones who got back are the tough ones”. What does that even mean! I simply assume she failed any group that didn’t pass the cave.
We have now lost a total of 57 members, meaning we are now down to 108 new members. And while new applicants now are fewer we do still, as per your orders, allow new blood to join. Meaning you can expect this number to increase again shortly (see 7 dimensional graph X25363-k).
I’m hearing strange rumours from some members that they had to fight other members in the cave! Chocking! When I confronted Officer veldriss she simply said she had altered some of the constructs to look like members. And she never did give me a satisfactory answer as to why she would to that at all! even worse. As I examined the cave it seems its controls where set to “lethal”, how horrible. Think what might have happened if the new members had to run through that regiment! Well it seems I averted that accident anyway. But other then that Officer veldriss did take good care of the cave. As I inspected it I found absolutely nothing out of place. She must have gone to great lengths to clean up afterwords.

Sigh…FINE. Well It started with my old friend Odeman contacting me, you know, the dwarf archaeologist. Well It seems Hike had sold the rights to excavate the nearby ruins to the Royal archaeological society. Well they hit some sort of snag and hired us to supply some temple cleaning. Your standard A56-b. So I assembled a team, got that shadar-kai that was in the previous arawai temple clean-up, a bard that had a particular interest in Arawai, the bugman and a warforged, and sent them off. Is this thing on now? ah god. Seems the temple was trapped to hell and back and filled with guardians. They all reported heavy injuries and the likes. It even seems Odeman died in the processes of clearing out a room, good thing we got paid in advance but I’ll still miss that old bugger. I might just have him resurrected. At-least its all cleared out now and they should be able to look at all the frescoes they want. Except for one room it seems…might need to send a specialist team to disable some active traps, wonder if I can send Veldriss? Well now should I add the Bards report as an addendum, but its soo long! and I’m fairly sure its mostly poppycock aswell. Since when where bards able to take on entire rooms by them selves? while carrying 3 people, and he hardly mentions the rest! He also seems to have some sort of imaginary shardmind friend. because he keeps referring to some sort of Gem, a walking talking Peridot. Might have taken a heavy hit to the head, need to send him to the priest for a check up. Oh yeah, they brought back some book from the temple. Seems to explain a bit about the the Arawai temples.
Had Odeman resurrected. He is still grumpy, and wanted a discount for our adventurers not saving him. Told him the Resurrection cost should be considered the discount and he got silent. Love teasing that bugger. Veldriss cleared the remaining traps out, and it seems some gold was misplaced aswell. For a more detailed report on what the temples was all about here is a attached version of the book. But short version is that they where guarding an artifact known as the Geck. I’ve started decoding the cypher in the back, but it will take me some time before I get some useful information.
In the wake of the demon-cults attack a full blown investigation was called for, conducted under the watchful gaze of Qerub himself! Mal the executive officer of transcontinental cargo was one of the first to be caught, but not the only one. Somehow they seemed to have infested every aspect of town life, shops, temples and so on where all cult-sympathizers. Even amongst the GVC guild itself there where… troubling signs…
Few could believe that cult members could join the guild so easily, as rigorous and extensive background scrying is done before full membership is granted. But never the less…there it was. How they got past the scrying no one seems to know.
Thankfully there was only one group of four that seemed to be part of the cult. They seem however, to have escaped east towards Akkomorf, making their capture a lot harder as that country does not recognize the guilds authority, nor do they like the citizens of Kirtap. You will have to avoid detection, track the party down and bring them back. Preferably alive for questioning and a “fair” trial.
There were several monumental findings done during this investigation.
First of all, the border security on both sides of Kirtap and Akkormorph are way to lax. Although they did find our team, thank the light they didn’t identify them as GVC, they where able to flee the area only to walk straight through a few days later. As it would be unwise to come forward with this information I recommend either make subtle suggestions to those in command or we get the King to let us inspect security due to the border being in our zone of interest, we declare it unacceptable and then improve it.
Second finding was the fact that the team “border hopper” discovered that the traitor team was in fact totally unaware of their own treachery. As far as they knew they where good people helping the community and following GVC orders. We simply must get our scrying up to code again, I request yet again that this be given highest priority.
Third finding was one truly chocking to me. Team “border hopper” reports that the traitor team was previously working directly under Veldriss in an infiltration mission. She has been asked about this and denies any knowledge about it, but something tells me she knows more then she lets on. I was told that all missions where to go through me, that I was in charge of this area and GVCs interests here. But I wonder if that is the full truth now. I request a full investigation of this Qerub, or at the very least some answers. I simply don’t buy that they are lying. If this is some sort of conspiracy as I fear this mistake may enable us to nip it in the bud. For if it has come so far that they no longer care to cover mistakes, they it may already be to late.
On to other things, Fourth finding was a command base to the Ankh cult. Team “border hopper” received Intel from the traitors about its location and bargained their lives for the information. It may very well be worth it as we can now most likely take down the entire Cult in southeastern Kirtap. But to let the traitors go, is still something that was in direct violation of their orders. I need to punish them in the eyes of the other members so everyone won’t start thinking they can do whatever they want around here. I would appreciate advice on this Qerub or even some help.
The fifth and final finding was done long after the rest. The traitor team are sleeper agents for the Ankh cult. Innocent or not for other crimes, they need to at the very least be de-programmed. As they seem to be deep in Akkormorph now they are all but untraceable for our junior members, and given that the traitors may hold sensitive GVC intelligence, I request to be allowed to find and deal with them my self. Since Fiddlebinder is in town now and his tower is yet to be constructed, he has agreed to take my place if I’m allowed to go. And do not fear that Veldriss will feel overlooked for the position, even she knows she would be a horrible choice to do the administrative parts. She seems quite happy in her role as security chief.
A disinformation team has been sent to the cult base, they are sowing disinformation and setting up a long term trap as we speak. Team “border hopper” will be placed on guard duty in town to make it look like they are removed from active quest duty, while they in fact are enjoying a nice paid vacation with the best rooms in Tymora’s Coin. I ,Hike, have been allowed to hunt the traitor team personally and Fiddlebinder is left in charge. I am also to oversee the work of the Akkormorph disinformation team.
A full GVC investigation has yet to be launched. But with Fiddlebinder now in charge we at least have top level scrying available.
Its been a little more then a month since the dragon incident and midsummer was approaching. Qerub then decided that we should have a midsummers festival, to increase trade and to let take peoples mind of recent events. But of course on the first day of our week long festival a murder is committed, a clearly ritualistic murder. With senior members out and about I once again had to send one of the rookie teams, hence forth called team Facepalm. Team Facepalm consists of Ausek (Goliath warden), Alek (Human monk), Reshan (Dragonborn warlord) and Ashelia (Woodelf druid).
Group Facepalm went on to completely destroy the first crime-scene, according to stationed city-guardsmen then just wrecked it. They then proceeded to harass local tavern-owner Benni in search of clues. I also received a bill from our local highpriest of the Light, it seems they hired him to cast a “talk to the dead” ritual. And while cleaver I wish they would settle for an acolyte and not bother the highpriest himself as his fees are somewhat ridiculous.
Day two of the festival another, identical murder, was committed. This time however it was done in the middle of a road and while the guards where not able to stop the crime they did catch one of the perpetrators afterwords. According to guardsmen his is completly crazy. never the less, after team facepalms interrogation they saw enough cause to harass every noble in town and all upper class merchants. From Reshans personal report, and the complaints of said parties, it is clear that Reshan tried to be diplomatic and civil while his team-members wildly accused, taunted and even beat up “suspects”. All that stopped me from outright killing them was the fact that Lady Ravenwood seemed to know something about this whole incident. Even so the political ramifications will be huge. Few, if any, noble will want to stay in, or deal with, our town now. I also received a complaint from Fiddlebinder, who is currently constructing a tower outside of town, that Ausek tried to steal from him while he was helping them, OUTRAGEOUS! While I do doubt that he is the actual criminal, seeing as I have a small stack of reports implicating that the Monk has taken quite a few things while on missions, It still reflects badly on the guild as a whole. Qerub maintains that each of our new members have a “grander” destiny to full fill then being killed by me, but I still recommend that this group be thrown out or at the very least disbanded so as not to cause the guild more harm.
Days three to five went painless (thankfully) as team facepalm stopped one murder each day. Day six the cultists full plan went into motion as they summoned a daemon in town centre square. Team facepalm managed to subdue the daemon and stopped it from causing more harm then destroying a stage. A small redeeming fact, but my opinion is still the same: Revoke their member-status or at least disband the group.
Because several people saw team facepalm “Bravely battling daemons to save the city”, Qerub has deemed it unwise to throw them out, even if that would help our relations with the nobles and merchants. Thankfully I was able to convince him to at least disband the group and let them pair up with others for future missions. I wish a better fate on Reshan, he seems to be a good soul and I owe his father as much as to at least try to keep him in better company.
As I predicted all nobles have now moved out of town and removed their investments. Several of the larger merchants guilds where also pushing to leave but thankfully Poobaa managed to broker a compromise. GVCdmembers are no longer allowed in the merchantguilds halls or other facilities nor are they allowed to stop and search caravans at will. All such actions must now go through the city guard and a request must be sent to the merchant guild in question in advance. Making it virtually impossible to properly investigate. But we need the merchant here to make the town viable. I can only pray that relations will get better
As some members where investigating a baby-napping wave in town they stumbled upon a dragon-nest. One member was killed and the rest fled. Dragon hunting party is being created and dispatched.
Kobolds where still guarding the dragon but where disposed of. The Brown dragon was likewise killed and its hoard taken. On their way back the hunting party found ruins of a temple to Arawai.
Investigation-team sent to temple ruins on behalf of Arawai-church and dragon corpse harvested for all possible resources
Several families in town reported having their infant children kidnapped over the relatively small time frame of 3 days. Amongst them a newly appointed nobleman named Dall, nephew to our local big time farmowner PooBaa. A team was immediately assembled when I (guild-lieutenant Hike) first got the information. “Team Giant” was sent. A patchwork team of two goliath, a tiefling and a voidsoul genasi. I don’t really know why we even allow the tiefling in our guild though, sure he survived the test but I have several reports indicating less then honourable behaviour. Then again if Veldriss would do her job properly we might have dealt with this a long time ago.
3/4th of group Giant returned later the same day they where sent out. They had found clues implicating kobolds as the perpetrators behind the abductions and gone to a nearby koboldinfested cave. There they battled several kobolds, including one they believe to be the local King Torg. But as they where searching for the babies they ran in to a young dragon making its home in the caves. Now according to the groups reports Ethal sacrificed herself to enable the rest to flee the monster. But something feels odd about this story, I can see in their eyes that they aren’t telling the whole truth. I’m fairly sure that both the tiefling and voidsoul would sacrifice her to flee but the other goliath, Keveki, doesn’t seem the type to leave a friend to die alone. Perhaps Ethal fled and the others are covering for her shame? Its something we will look into later. For now there seems to be a dragon to deal with. But all is not bad as they at least where able to save all missing children, including one that has yet to be reported. Hans-Ullric has volunteered to raise it until its kin report it missing.
Keveki has repeatedly asked to be part of the group to slay the dragon, a matter of honour he sais, as it killed one of his kin. perhaps we actually need to give out younger members training? and not just send them to do menial tasks. Still waiting for Qerubs finl say on the training cave restoration.
Hans- Ullric(proprietor of Tymorras coin) was rumoured to be leaving Eversummer, something worth investigating as Hans is a great asset to the Town. He Has been a faithful guildmember for many years and it is vexing that he did not come to the guild for help in the first place. Matter should be considered private and sensitive.
Group Duke took an interest in this affair and managed to convince Hans to let them help, he always did have a softspot for up and coming adventurers. Non the less they seem to have been efficient as they first searched the city for clues to find Name Removed and then proceeded to his lair with the aid of Hans, managed to vanquish him.
It is a bit troubling that Name Removed was able to utilise an old guild training ground as that one in particular was thought destroyed. A investigation will be launched to determine if it can be re-purposed to train the recruits.
Hans-Ullric seems to have come out on top of this ordeal as he is happier now than I’ve seen him in a long time. He has hired a waitress named Luusi and seem to be slightly overprotective of her.
Lord Oakwood had come to town recently saying he was investigating the “Sunrise imports/exports” trading house. Due to heavy investment into the company and rumours of illicit activities.
After 4 days in town Lord oakwood went missing and turns up dead 1 day later.
Lord Oakwoods second, sir Ivan, accuses the guild of foul play and dereliction of guard-duty, guild-lieutenant Veldriss seems uninterested in the case and guild-lieutenant Hike is pressed with other tasks. Guild Master Qerub is forced to return to manage relations while group “Duke” is assembled and tasked with investigation, may the light protect us.
After extensive investigation group have made following findings:
1. Lord Oakwood willingly and of own volition teleported away from his room and guards in “Tymorras coin” to visit a brothel.
2. He was assassinated by a Changeling posing as a prostitute.
3. She came to town with a” Sunrise imports/exports” caravan from Akkomorph.
4. Trademaster Adrik of “Sunrise imports/exports” is one of the suspects.
5. Guild-lieutenant Veldriss is one of the suspects.
6. Sir Ivan is one of the suspects.
Assassin was caught but committed suicide before interrogation was made. There is not enough evidence to arrest any party. Further investigation pending.
Political ramifications of Lord Oakwoods death are severe, relationship with the king is strained and only thanks to group “Duke”’s ability to find the assassin have GVC been able to ride out the storm.
Local Farmer/merchant PooBaa sent in a report that his farmhands had encountered “small flying daemons”. Problem deemed to be below current member capability thus reduced to raw recruit task.
Group 8 sent to investigate.
Addendum: 2 weeks have passed and group 8 has yet to report back. Group 8 declared MIA.
Mission difficulty considered increased, will therefore send next group or raw recruits led by guildmember.
Taskforce “Duke” sent to investigate.
Compiled of teamleader Duke and raw recruits Peridot Midori (shadar-kai), Razam (human) and Paavu (goliath).
Duke reports that after initial investigation a small temple devoted to Arawai was uncovered. Its guardians tried to keep the team from entering but where promptly removed. Inside the temple signs of corruption where evident and exploration revealed a demonic cultist that tried to drain the temples powers to summon a powerful daemon. Apparently recruit Peridot where granted Arawais favour during the incursion, shall inform guildmaster and keep her under surveillance. Taint was removed and lands returned to normal state.
Information was found in the temple that claims there are several other temples to Arawai nearby and also mention a powerful artefact named G.E.C.K., no reference to either temples or artefact have been found in local archives. Investigation pending.
Poobaa have asked to be allowed to restore the temple and keep it on his lands in an effort to improve his yearly cropsyeald. A message has been sent to the Curch of Arawai with a edited copy of this report and the request to reopen the temple. A close eye will be put on Arawai followers to see if more temples can be uncovered and if the artefact can be claimed by the guild.
