Caldoranth by raphael lacoste3.

Mierodran

Once hailed as the wonder of the northern reaches, the Dwarven cities of Mierodran now lie in war torn ruin, their former glory entombed within dark and sleepless halls. Now, nearly a millennium after the end of the Demonspawn Wars, Igladon alone remains standing. Hewn deep within the roots of the Hammodran Mountains, this city is a final bastion of Dwarven strength in the North.

Yet in the wake of Dwarven decline the fortunes of Men have begun to turn. Where once a mere handful of settlements of expatriated humans dotted the valley of the Hammodrans, now the burgeoning city of Caldoranth has grown up in the shade of the mountains. Since the time of the Demon Spawn Wars the Dwarves have kept to the mountains, consolidating their holdings within the belly of the Hammodrans. Thus humanity has spread throughout the Downs of Edigroth as far south as the Dantalig River, cultivating the land formerly inhabited by Dwarves.

While the men of Caldoranth are a stout and doughty lot, life in the Northern lands is far from easy. Recolonization of the Downs has proved an arduous and often deadly task. The city of Caldoranth and its colonies have been harrowed by Dragons alighting from the clefts of Eldernost, by goblins dwelling within deep warrens of the Hammodrans, by the frequent ravages of Orc clans hailing from within the Atrowin Heights, and by all manner of fell beast still dwelling upon the untamed downs of Edigroth. In spite of such adversity, humanity has managed to bring some semblance of civilization back to the northern Downs. They have restored the King’s Highway and settled along the shores of the Dantalig River, thus opening trade routes with the southern nations, and with the Tindori Woodelves to the west. Yet in the far western reaches a new danger has arisen that threatens to up-heave the fledgling civilizations of the Northlands. A new breed of dragon riders has been reared within the land of Karthador. Armed with this new acquisition, the city of Iscalatharn makes ready to wage war upon her ancient foes, and the armies of Karn stand in readiness to march upon the eastern lands.
