Southgate
ike Northgate, Southgate refers to more than merely the gate guarding entrance into town from the Kings Highway. Locals also use the term to pick out the cluster of businesses just inside or outside of the gate. The Gates themselves are guarded by six men-at-arms, and there is a changing of the guard every two hours. The Gates are closed and locked for the night at sunset, and do not open again until the first light of dawn. During the day time merchant’s caravans can usually be seen gathered outside of the gates waiting to load their wares to various businesses within Market Street.
