The Lost Past

This is a very brief overview of the history of this world. Much of recorded history was lost during the exodus during the Great Winter – this page will be expanded as you discover lost tomes and expand your knowledge of the time before the Age of Dragons. Much of the information that you do have has been passed only by word of mouth, or from Tomes with histories written from a single person’s – obviously skewed – perspective. Take anything you find about the past with a grain of salt, it may be more than meets the eye…

Age of the Primals

In the beginning, the creators came to this world and and let life flow into it. At first they let it flow as it would, creating the plants, animals, and primal spirits of the world. Then, when the world was ready, the creator gods fashioned the races of intelligence. The creator gods then left, and the races of man grew on their own. They came to worship the primal sprits, and cared greatly for the natural world. All was not well, though. For a millenia the spirits of the dead had passed through to the after-world. Many had become strong and stole worship from the primal spirits.

War of the Veil
The creators fought to defend their subjects, but the war was costly. In the end, they could not defeat the destroyers. They all focused on another solution instead – isolation. They created The Veil, a barrier that seperates the living from the after-world and the Lifestream. Though they sacrificed themselves to create it, it saved the world.

Age of the Gods

A millenia later the creator gods returned to their creations, they interacted with the world and great temples were erected in their honor. The after-world gods were jealous of the creator gods, who had the ability to walk the world they had been forced to leave behind. They learned of a way to re-enter the world of the living, and sought to wreak death to increase their strength. Thus began the war of the Veil.

Age of the Mages

In the absence of the creators and the destroyers, a new age of man arose – the Age of Mages where the world was ruled by the power of magic. Great cities were built that last to this day. Items of untold power were forged. Knowledge progressed – it was a renaissance, and among the greatest times of the world.

Age of the Winter

Then, a great winter struck and cast the land in ice and snow for nearly a thousand years. Most of the races of man went underground for warmth. The knowledge of the past was mostly left behind. The most powerful of the mages disappeared. Some believe that they transformed themselves into the dragons that terrorize them to this day. Others believe even that it was the ritual that transformed them that stole the warmth from the world to become their fiery breath.

Age of the Dragons

As the glaciers receeded man re-emerged from the depths to discover that not all had died on the surface. The Sky People still soared above, to and fro their mountain top cities – and were now quite xenophobic. Others races of man survived under the protection of the dragons (though in reality their situation is more like cattle). Now we resettle the ruins of an civilization steeped in magic we cannot re-create, while defending ourselves against the dragons and their minions.
