Something wicked this way comes..

June 28, 2012 15:38

The party meets their contact in Roach Town and he leads them several levels down towards Rust Town
They’re assaulted by the smells of and sounds of various cultures from all over the ‘Sphere, all packed together onto the massive decks of Sky City. Hridt notices a Theaduanian Temple and wanders off mumbling something about ’paying the keeper’. The group pushes their way through the throng when the distinct sound of blade hitting bone stops them in their tracks. Vanithal turns to find Andrys with a surprised look and a black dagger driven into his stomach up to the hilt. the Bard collapses as the Vanithal quickly scans the crowd for the would-be assassin. Andariel attempts to staunch the blood flow, but his hand brushes against the dagger. A jolt of searing agony burns through him and his vision begins to shift and warp. With immense effort the Cleric informs the Magus that the dagger is a potent source of profane magic and can only be removed by a Priest of greater skill than himself. Vanithal carefully shoulders Andrys and runs towards the Temple of Redemption at paranormal speed. The Cleric feels the dark energy swirling through him and a final surge of pain wracks his mind.

The Magus kicks the temple doors open and enters to find an elderly priest doing his daily sacrament. They place the dying half-elf on the raised dais and attempt to treat him.
suddenly a crushing dread overtakes them, Overwhelming their senses and driving the priest to his knees and leaving the soldier unmoving as the unnatural fear binds him to the spot.
A shadow drops from the ceiling and stands to reveal a man dressed in armor comprised of hundred of black blades, a cloak of wafting razored feathers hangs from his shoulders. The helmet takes the shape of a bird head also cast from dozens of blades. The bladed man approaches the fear stricken men and speaks.

The Cleric stands in a crimson desert under a molten red sky. hanging above him is a massive arcane circle written in a wicked form of Celestial. A well dressed man sits nearby in a simple wooden chair; Long black hair adorns a handsome face and Ice blue eyes observe him with sincerity, his clothes are of Upper Class Virmonian and he sits with a casual nobility.

The bladed man approaches Andrys and pulls the blade from his chest and carelessly tosses it aside. The man looks down and professes his displeasure with the weakened state he’s found his son in. The man removes his helmet to reveal himself to be the Murderous father of Andrys. The bard’s father produces a small crystalline orb which he places on the open wound. A murky black and green cloud fills the orb. He mentions that he’s disappointed in his son being unable to stay out of danger. He reveals that he murdered his own family to complete the blood ritual that would allow him to remove his soul and bind it to his son.

The Blue Eyed man holds a friendly conversation with the somewhat confused cleric. The Blue Eyed man lets him know that he was well acquainted with his parents and worked quite closely with his father, though he did not see eye-to-eye with the his mother. The man gives him a friendly hand shake and promises to be seeing him soon.
Gaius Von DeGraeff notices that the orbs voracious nature has been sated often by the blood of murdered innocents. pregnant women notably. He shows a twisted sort of pride when he detects this and places the orb on the Dais then leans in to taunt his son. A yell echoes through the temple as the disheveled man comes from out of nowhere screaming a feeble war cry,the hammer in his hand aimed for the orb. Gaius appears before him and with less than a gesture, cuts his hand off. the hand sails and slams into Vanithal’s chest and plops at his feet. the disheveled man falls to the ground screaming in a high pitched wail. Gaius remarks in a cold tone that he’d had enough of the disheveled man’s meddling. The wailing is cut silent as the Disheveled man’s head tumbles across the room. Gaius returns to his son as if the interruption had not happened. Meanwhile A strange cool feeling has spread through Vanithal as he feels the oppressive fear leave him. a tapping at his shoe makes him glance down; the severed hand taps his boot then points at the orb sitting on the dais. The Magus lunges forward and swiftly crushes the orb in a shower of crystalline splinters. Gaius VonGraeff roars in anger, the edges of his armor begin to rust and flake off before their eyes. He points his sword at the Magus promising repayment in kind and then disperses into shadow.

The cleric becomes conscious that he’s back in sky city. The Contact tells him he simply became glassy eyed and quiet as they made their way to the Temple of Redemption. Andariel looks to his birthmark and notices a sudden clarity in each line and a greater amount of detail as if it was a tattoo rather than a birthmark. Bemused by this change of circumstances the Cleric continues towards the temple.
The shaken priest and the Pelosion Soldier begin healing the dying bard. The soldier is embittered at the thought of harboring an alleged serial killer all this time. Andrys’ health stabilizes as Andariel arrives to find a pool of blood, a stone knife and a severed hand laying on the floor. Vanithal notices the body and head of the disheveled man have mysteriously vanished. Andariel finds the knife and picks it up without incident; The crudely crafted knife now has the same warm familiar feeling of the man in the red desert. further inspection of the severed hand reveals a series of linked tattoos. the top of the hands has a phrase in old draconic: LARYSS DIES. and written on the palm: THE WORLD DIES.
The Soldier retrieves two constables and has Andrys placed under arrest for serial murder. the bard is hauled away on a stretcher but the Elven noble fears that justice may not be done due to Andrys VonDeGraeff’s Noble status.
The party, now somewhat shaken by these new turn of events head for their Hotel in Rust Town on the lower decks.

Meanwhile a Virmonian Professor named Davin has arrived on the lower east side of Sky City. He quickly checks his map and proceeds for Rust Town. Dodging through alleys and past local pickpockets, Davin recalls his strange conversation with the one eared half elf named Claine. Claine’s employer was willing to do Davin a favor as long as he payed that favor back later on. Davin was not one to usually make such deals, but he had grown desperate to find an answer to the growing mystery surrounding the Scholar Opimius and the Various ancient artifacts that had suddenly become animate after possibly thousands of years. A mystery both he and the Virmonain Department of Intelligence wanted solved.

The party reunites (sans Andrys) at their designated hotel: His Iron Coffin. They relax and attempt to put together the events of the day in way that would makes sense. The bards father, the Disheveled man (as well as his hand sitting snugly in the cleric’s bag.) their apparently murderous ally and the recent new of both the Prince and the Wolf having been sighted somewhere in Sky City. They turn in for the night and wearily ponder as to what ’morrow will bring.

Davin visits Andrys in the Hospital. The bard is guarded by several constables, but is given the preferential treatment of a noble. The Bard speaks with Davin about what that had seen and done. After a few hours the Half-Elf bequeaths a few items to the Professor under the promise that Davin will find the answer to what has been happening and if possible how it’s linked to Gaius Von deGraeff.

The Next day arrives and Vanithal and Andariel breakfast and drown out the Snoring of Hridt with Local Radio. They learn that The Regent of Pelo had survived an assassination attempt by a disgruntled member of the Desnaen Populace. The general public were beginning to question the prince’s absence and conspiracy theories lurked in every wateringhole in Pelo. The Party readies themselves to leave when Davin introduces himself and brings tidings from Claine. The party finds the Virmonian suspicious, but agrees to let him tag along as they attempt to gather information on their wayward target.
After several hours and some wasted gold, they learn of a brewing Gang war between three major groups: Stone Rats,The Archons and The Hexers. Somehow the Archons had gotten hold of Military grade hardware and had been aggressively expanding their territory. 2 gold buys them a lead. A girl saw a man fitting the prince’s description hanging around a brothel in Deck G AKA Angel’s Hamlet. the party follows the girl towards the brothel, only to realize too late that it was a trap. The normally busy market and food court empties quickly as several gang members surround the party. A halfling approaches them and jauntily suggests that they make a donation to the church of Archon. (suggested donation: everything) They begin to heartily disagree with the suggested donation policy when they hear the whirring of a turbine. A man wearing a strange backpack and carrying a large heavy gun steps out of the crowd. the halfling promises the wrath of god fire for those who don’t cooperate. The Cleric responds with his own divine repartee and shatters a Glass Solenoid on the Backpack. The party draws their weapons as yet another theological debate comes to blows.
