Ardun: Dark Portents

Born of elemental spirits like their greater dragon kin the Dragonborn since the dawn of time have served the dragons and the draconic deities Bahamut and Tiamat. Seven hundred years ago the dragonborn lived under the rule of the Golden Emperor of Arkhosia, the Dragon Empire in Southern Calmar. But as the borders of nearby Bael Turath expanded the two empires went to war and eventually, two hundred years later, they both collapsed under the strain and darkness swept over the lands.

The dragonborn who live in Ardun today are mostly descended from refugees who still tell stories about the glories of ancient Arkhosia. The fall of Arkhosia is a black mark on the souls of most Dragonborn. Some blame the hubris of the dragons for the fall of their homeland and others still harbor anger towards the tieflings.

Dragonborn integrated well into Nerath, despite their mourning of Arkhosia and for two hundred years the Dragonborn lived and thrived in peace and prosperity. Despite this they made numerous failed attempts to recolonize shattered Arkhosia. With the fall of Nerath the Dragonborn were again hit hard, many dying to the Desolation or being rent apart defending the empire against the gnoll hordes.

The dragonborn native to Cairnbridge today are the survivors of a handful of clans. The largest of these is the Flamebrow Clan. Other clans, such as the Loremarks and the Silverspear clans have built a home with their brethren in a small corner of Eastbridge known as Scale Bend.
