Monks Lane
A hundred years ago a group of monks and priests dedicated to the memory of the Pelorite priestess, Aeslin Moorwalker, founded a abbey in her name. They cloistered themselves away from the rest of the city and lived in contemplation, only leaving the abbey to bring food to their neighbors as the area around them deteriorated.
Twenty years ago the monks were murdered in their sleep by a gang and despite the fury of Whitestone Temple the Watchmen could do very little to bring order to the area.
Monk’s Lane today is the center of a vast slum. Gangs rule the area through fear and intimidation and the Watchmen cannot break their hold on the area. The Abbey of St. Aeslin today is the headquarters of the dangerous Bloodknives. A powerful gang involved in most of the murder and mayhem in the city. Its leaders, Blade and Fear, are two tieflings who embody the worst of their race and rumors that they are empowered through Hellish pacts spread their influence even farther.
Update: After kidnapping Meredith in hopes of fleecing the adventurers of some of their tomb loot the group wiped out the Bloodknives and set the city sewers ablaze in the process. In addition to ending a dangerous threat the city’s sewage has never been purer.
Aeslin’s abbey is now empty, though other gangs are sure to try and move in and take up the territory left empty without the Bloodknives.
