The Micelli Crime family is almost an institution in Arkanopolis, they’ve been around since before the boroughs were incorporated into one city. They started off small, as local mafioso, but grew over time to spread across the whole metropolis. For a long time they were disdainful of ‘supers’ and ‘capes’, feeling that they were above that sort of silliness, but then a certain masked adventurer known as the Asphalt Knight turned his attention towards their activities. He systematically went through smashing up their drug labs, beating up their ‘protection’ agents, and generally bashing heads wherever several of them gathered. The problem was brought to a head by the trial of his ‘Sidecar Squire’, who was convicted of murder. Even though the young boy was convicted of the murder of Donnie Micelli, the family as a whole did not appreciate the media circus that followed the trial.

After that, the Asphalt Knight faded from the spotlight, as his attacks became less and less frequent. James Rhodes, the ‘Sidecar Slayer’ now, refused to divulge anything about the Knight, and spent the next 5 years in Juvenile Hall. The family put out a price on his head as was normal practice, but internally, there were already rumbles of change. Don Marco Micelli, the head of the family, spent a year in hiatus, apart from the family and the business, and when he returned, was a changed man. He still felt the duty to his family and the business, but he had found a new spirituality, and all of his methods changed. No longer would violence be their method, for it only attracted costumed vigilantes, and it was not worth the hassle. Now they would follow the path of peace and enlightenment – though they would still run drugs, own brothels, extort protection money – they just did it under the veneer of brotherhood and peace. They still have a cadre of thugs to do their dirty work, but now they study the path of zen, or at least a close approximation.
