N
ow, the last and final WolfBat lies defeated. The group makes their way back to the keep. Fow Bang Chow decides to stay and take care of the three bodies, finding a safe place to lock them away while the others make their way to Ba Sing Se. Traveling by foot, the group travelers for 3 days without incident; until they see a group camped on the road up ahead. Rongo calls out “Who goes there?”

The men immediately jump into action, and the heroes overhear them saying “its them! Attack!”. The heroes get ready for a fight and move forward into position, sizing up the enemy. The mercenaries seem to contain 1 bender, 5 warriors, and 1 knight mounted atop a Triceratops. A terrible battle ensues as Rongo and Mozzie are forced to deal with the knight, while Kio and Po-Po face the warriors and Earthbender. Meanwhile, Aumanil heads into a grove of trees to get cover in which to fire icicles from, but he is ambushed by a group of three yetis! Luckily, they attack a soldier who was coming after Aumanil first, giving the Waterbender time to defend himself. Po-Po, heading to the other side of the battle, feels an enormous tremor shake the ground, knocking him over. It is none other than a mighty frost wurm, drawn to the commotion in his territory. The violent action of emerging from beneath the ground knocks most of them over…

W
illiam, the original Werewolf, has been defeated and lies in a deep slumber, the stake protruding from the beasts head. The night is dark and without light, as heavy clouds overcast the cold mountain forests. The group sleeps in the shelter of a steep rock face next to a small fire, at the top of a steep hill leading down into the forests below. Thick trees dot the hillside, and the horses stand off to the side eating the patches of grass. Mozzie, perched in tree near the camp, peers into the night attempting to keep watch under such bad visibility. After the rest of the party has fallen into a slumber, Mozzie stays attentive. One of the horses stands, his ears flickering in alert. The other horses become nervous and Mozzie takes notice. It is too dark to see anything substantial, but he thinks he an see the dark outline of humanoid shapes darting between the trees. Whatever they are, it makes a chill run down his spine, and he is sure they are running this way…

I
nfiltrating the Fortress of tears to rescue Angela with the help of Mozzie, the group managed to get her out, but not without cost. The group had a fearsome encounter with Veradin who was evaded only by the decisive actions of Rongo and Kio, who attacked him with dynamite and a devastatingly successful lightning blast. After successfully escaping, it became apparent that Talin had died, as he stayed behind to fight the foe, successfully buying time for the group to escape mostly unhindered. You know begin sailing into the fog again, the fortress still in sight atop the cliff they jumped from. Angela can barely move, her tortured body fighting to repair itself and feed the new life growing within her. The group looks back, and sees Imperial troops standing before the blown out wall in the fortress wall, and they know that Talin has indeed fallen…

A
fter the group made their way back to the Northern Water Tribe and Aumanil finally faced his brother, defeating him in a fight to the death. Proclaiming his uncle chief, Aumanil and the group have discovered the secrets of the Wolfbats and solidified the Northern Water Tribe as an ally of the White Lotus.

Now, sailing south on the Jade Dragon, you make your way back to the mainland in route to Vigils Keep, the new base of operations for the Champions of the White Lotus and the Keepers of Equity. You also received word that someone with possible information as to the whereabouts of Angela is waiting for your return to the keep.

On your way across the Northern Sea, a great storm brews, nearly capsizing the ship twice were it not for the help of Aumanil and Po-Po in battling the seas. When the group returns to Keep, the ship docks at end of river, greeted by about 15 White Lotus warriors and about 5 lotus firebenders. They all ride ostrich horses and the lead firebender raises a hand in welcome as you walk onto the dock from the ship plank.

“My lord, we arrived at the keep shortly after you left. As per your commands, we have begun helping in the rebuilding of the keep and estate, and helping locals move into the village. We have made great progress and the keep is now up and running. We have brought mounts for you and the other champions.”

Fow Bang Chow nods in affirmation “Good job men, lead the way captain”.

When the party first makes its way to the keep they see travelers from all walks of life and lineage make their way to their new homes. Given land grants to start agriculture in the area, farmers and lumberjacks lead their oxen and asses laiden with equipment. The group sees the occasional carpenter repairing walls and roofs. or a waterbender improving tributaries and irrigation As they enter the keep they can see porters and labourers clearing out the old debris from other floors. Fow gives them the floorplans for the keep and gets any feedback they might have before he moves on to the next stage of building. A messenger gives Fow a note saying the man with information on Angela is waiting in the guest room upstairs…

Session 31

T
wo days before, the group met up with Aumanil’s uncle Blade Master Motoru and asked about the Forsaken Fortress. Motoru told you about it and sent you to a man named Lucian to learn more. On the way, your guide Juke led you into a trap during a blizzard, and you found yourself engaged by a clan of Cannibals. After a short battle encounter, they capture Rongo and demand your surrender. It becomes apparent however, that they hope to scare you away but keep Rongo, which was not acceptable to the group. After refusing, they finally agree to release Rongo and ushered you away. Talin was able to locate the cave of Lucian and you learned about Victor and his fortress. After having Lucian cause a distraction at the front, you broke in the back and found the Vampire Wolfbat in the main temple. You engaged him and later Victor, and using the element of surprise, as well as outstanding teamwork and discipline, you handily defeated your foes. Reading into the journal of Avatar Katsurik you learn that you must use the stakes of the Wolfbats to put them into an eternal slumber…. And then hope they are not discovered. For if one dies, the next spawn that infects someone, turns that victim into the slain WolfBat. This is why it took Avatar Katsurik so long to defeat them, and why he couldn’t kill them. If even one spawn escaped somewhere in the world. After the battle, you rescue Lucian from the last vampire daughter and he parts ways with the group, who then begins to travel back to the Northern Water Tribe with the Vampire WolfBat trapped in a slumber, the stake still protruding from its’ head…

N
ight passes, replaced by a few fresh hangovers. After collecting their wits with tea and some productive meditation sessions, the group makes their way to the home of Aumanil’s uncle, Blade Master Motoru. Aumanil, recounting what he was told by Eros, asks his uncle about the The Forsaken Fortress. Motoru is surprised to hear the name mentioned, and grows serious. If the journal of Avatar Katsurik is there, then this is going to be much harder then they thought… Motoru explains that
“the Fortress was built centuries ago. It’s existence is known only by the council. Long ago, a man propositioned the tribe with a bargain, that if we gave him land that was off limits to all people from the tribe, he would build a massive fortress, and here he would imprison all criminals we sent him from the tribe. We have honored this agreement blindly since. It seemed too good to be true. The only thing is, nobody knows who even runs the fortress anymore. We only see a few women take the prisoners each time, and they seem to never age. Some think they are immortal spirits sent to preserve law and order, others that they are demons reaping the souls of the dead. Nobody knows…
I know of one man who may be able to tell you more. A friend, by the name of Lucian. He is currently camped in a cave to the northwest. He told me he is close to discovering the identity of those running the fortress.”

F
ow Bang Chow has made his way around the Serpents Pass and, after charting passage on a ferry, arrives at Morhall Village. He received a letter by messenger hawk from High General Reibesch informing Fow Bang Chow that the man who owns the keep goes by the name of Ortho, and that the town guard captain has been told to expect your arrival. Ba Sing Se has agreed to recognize your guild as a stand alone organization as long as:

  • You purchase the land as a private buyer
  • You do not officially fly the banner of any recognized world faction (as Ba Sing Se is still officially neutral)
  • You may enact your own laws on your estate, but your keep is still under the Jurisdiction of the Earth King. As such, any citizens that are allowed as guests or residents on your land are still under the protection of Ba Sing Se law, and any violations of said laws are still subject to prosecution by the courts of the Earth King.
  • You will either have Ba Sing Se guards to patrol your grounds (in which case you would pay us a monthly fee) or you must privately contract your own guards, in which they must be trained and certified in the administration of Ba Sing Se law and order.

Morhall is a moderately sized village, consisting mainly of agriculture production. Recently however, the valley has grown busy and crowded as the troops of Ba Sing Se have fortified the city. It has become a supply depot and forward operating base for the kings army. As such, there has been a rampant increase in places that cater to the needs of such inhabitants. Brothels, Taverns, and Smithies are among some of the blossoming industries. As the ferry pulls into harbor, a few Earthbender guards smile and wave Fow over.

S
unlight creeps over the mountain horizon, as daylight approaches. Fow Bang Chow strokes his fu man chu, ruffled by the cool winter breeze. Whisps of smoke quickly dissipate under Fow’s wide-brimmed farmer hat. Distant calls signal the approach of the messenger hawk en route to the discreet location; an inn nestled a few miles north of Gaoling City. The inn serves as the last resting post for those wanting to venture north through the Senhai Mountain pass into the Si Wong Dessert. A sealed scroll with the lotus insignia neatly lands on the deck of the Inn, Fow launching the scroll into his hand with a small catapult of earth and opens it with a flourish.

“The balance of this world is dwindling Fow. You have the support of the Lotus Alliance in your guild-venture and we honor your sacrifice. We entrust to you a division of specialists that is worthy of a commander of the lotus alliance and guardian of the Avatar. Please note that the fortress you desire, Vigil’s Keep, requires “renovations” that will be described to you by your investor.”

Fow pauses at this last sentence, his brow ruffles as he takes a large draw from his pipe. He knew fully of the town’s desertion. Everyone in the region knows not to venture too close to the ruined village. Even with Fow’s recently obtained knowledge of the Spirit Realm, he knows that there will not be easy tasks ahead of him. He continues to read, already heading inside the inn to gather his supplies.

“While you may choose to travel north along the coast, we believe it wiser to avoid bandit confrontation, as that area is currently under siege by Ba Sing Se troops constantly trying to gain back territory in the desert. This is why traveling north-east through the Senhai Mountains may be the better option. However be warned for the pass proves to be a cold place, in more ways than one. Spirits be with you.”

Fow gathers his remaining items in his satchel, taking a moment to pause on Valorun. Drawing the blade only a few inches past its hilt, the last of the mighty earthbender’s fears wash away. Reflecting on the mirror-like sheen, Fow notices his tattoos of Valor in the dim candlelight. “How the hell did we end up here?” Fow looks over to find his faithful companion Con’ry rooting through the relative fortune of Patola silver ready for delivery. “Alright boy, let’s get this show on the road.” Fow’s pet badger-mole obediently hops in his custom-made section of the pack, taking a silver piece to play with. “I’ll be taking that.” Fow tries to reclaim the silver only to have Con’ry nip his finger and dash into his nest.

Session 27

F
og rolls in over the Northern Ocean as The Jade Dragon sails towards the icy region that is home to the Northern Water Tribe. As the ship proceeds further into the fog, it becomes thicker, obscuring vision. From the darkness, the sound of a voice drifts over the waves. Uneasy, the group gathers on deck, carefully listening to what lies in the night. As the sound grows closer, it become clear that it is a women singing. The source of the song is a ship that appears from within the fog. It is covered in ice. As it approaches the song seems to multiply in its strength, blocking out all other sound…

Out of the mist of history, He’ll come again, Sailing on ships across the sea, To a wounded Nation

Signs of a savoir, Like fire on the water, It’s what we prayed for, One of our own

Just wait, Though wide he may roam, Always, A hero comes home, He goes where no one has gone, But always, A hero comes home

Deep in the heart of darkness sparks, A dream of light, Surrounded by hopelessness, He finds the will to fight

There’s no surrender, Always remember, It doesn’t end here, We’re not alone

Just wait, Though wide he may roam, Always, A hero comes home, He goes where no one has gone, But always, A hero comes home

And he will come back on the crimson tide, Dead or alive, And even though we know the bridge has burned, He will return, He will return

Just wait, Though wide he may roam, Always, A hero comes home, He knows of places unknown, Always, A hero comes home

Someday they’ll carve in stone, “The hero comes home”

He goes and comes back alone, But always, A hero comes home

Just wait, Though wide he may roam, Always, A hero comes home

And suddenly, everyone in the crew falls into a deep slumber. The heroes all resist and stay awake, but every single one besides Aumanil is compelled to reach the source of the music as soon as possible, as ice reaches from the other ship and locks it together with the Jade Dragon…
