Letters to Home:

Letter # 1

My dearest Prulynn,
I am sorry it took so long to get back to you but, as we had assumed, life is very fast-paced in the human territories. It’s either their short life-span or their eagerness to progress but these people can really get things done! I have not made many friends on the other side as of yet but, the ones that I have made, are so invaluable to me. Apparently I was using the word shield for sword and vice versa and the whole situation caused a few more laughs at my expense than I would have preferred but I was set straight soon enough. How have your studies going? I hope you are able to read this letter properly and I’m sure it’s an excellent test of your ability to read and write in the Human language! I hope you are doing well and the house-keeper is not giving you too much trouble. I sent down my first bunch of gold to start the building of our new estate as well as some basic plans I drew up with your suggestions in mind! I think of you every day and can not wait until I get to see your beautiful smile again. You know how bad I am at writing long messages and I’m sure your brain is hurting from the translation. If you have any issues with the letter then let ask the house-keeper to assist you and I’m sure she will be happy to help.

I love you with all of my heart,
Dad

Letter # 2

Prulynn,
I hope you are well! As you can tell by this letter arriving much faster than the previous, I have finally managed to work my daily duties into a organized list and now have plenty of time every evening to give you my love and attention from abroad. Things here have been up and down with minor Kobold attacks, nothing to concern yourself over for they are only Kobold, but their presence this close to a human outpost confuses me. Your caretaker, Neji, tells me that you have been wandering off alone into the bogs again. I can not, in good conscience, scold you for the adventurous streak that you got from me but please, Prulynn, be careful. There are dangers in the swamp that you or Eggsby can not handle and I am always worrying for your safety. On a lighter note, Neji also informed me of the new hobby of yours that has caused her to keep running out at all hours of the night in search of research material. I could not read a full book at your age and yet, here you are, already stuffing your nose into books of the arcane. I am so proud of you and I’m sure, if your mother was here, she would, not only be estatic of your new hobby, but also be giving you the most boring and long-winded lectures on the finer art of “finger wiggling” as many humans call it over here. You remind me of your mother more with each passing day… Just try not to follow in her footsteps when it comes to using those abilities to play pranks on your future husband! It is getting late and I have second watch so I must cut this letter short. Be safe and make good choices.

With all of my love,
Dad

Letter # 3

My love,
Before I continue this letter, just to take any worry off of your mind, I am completely fine, of perfect health, and the events proceeding this have already happened as well been resolved. There was a Kobold assault on my station. I should have never taken their presence lightly. I mentioned it to my superiors when I caught sent of them previously but they would not heed my warning. We took great losses but they fort was held and saved by myself and a group of travelers who were passing through. I grieve for their loss and have already prepared them for the journey back to our homelands. Please give Neji the second letter containing their names and ranks. She will know who to forward the information to. I apologize I did not tell you sooner but I was worried that, if you knew, you would worry yourself sick and I’d rather take on the entire collective race of Kobold than put a frown on your face. That being said, the Lord of the human village running the fort has called for an audience of myself and my new comrades so I will have to depart shortly to brief him on the situation. I knew this job would not be easy but Kobolds? They were the last thing I would have expected. And so soon after their fall as well. But no matter because nothing, not even the Kobold king himself, could possibly best me. I will come home to you, Prulynn, and then, when that time comes, I will be able to watch you grow up in a peaceful land that loves and respects Gnomes. I must be off but I will write back again at the very next opportunity.

Stay safe,
Dad

Letter # 4

Prulynn,
Well met, my love, how have you been? Everything has calmed on this side… Well calm in respect to the fighting but not counting all the political activity! My new allies and I were rewarded for our defense of Bend Point and given the station to run and defend. I have not known my order mates for too long but they have all quickly become dear to me. I think you would enjoy their company as much as I do… Well maybe not the paladin as much as the others but he truly means well. Our next mission, as of now, is to guard a plantation near our station that is the suspected target of thee next kobold attack. If from what I read in your last letter to me is true then Mr. Weemin has my full support and funding in his research into the mobile chair he is researching. Please give him my devout thanks for not only taking it upon himself to even think of furthering research to improve your mobility without prompting and even fronting the initial expenses! Also inform him that all further expenses will be reimbursed as well as that I am deeply in his debt and will help him in any future endeavor if needed. If anyone can do this, Pru, he can. My family has known his for many years and they have all been gifted tinkerers. I an barely keep my excitement at bay when I think that you will be able to, someday, join my on my amazing journeys and see the wonders of the world by my side! That being said, we must pack to leave for the plantation so I must end this letter here but I will write again soon.

See you soon,
Dad
P.S. Be careful when playing with your magic. I don’t want another letter from Neji about curtains caught on fire.

Letter # 5

Letter
Dear Prulynn,
I miss you dearly but I write with good news. I met someone in the main lands; a beautiful fey woman named Odette. Now, before you go off and begin to protest we are only talking but I think you would really like her. The family running the plantation we are protecting turned out to not be human at all! I knew a human could never have a thumb a green as our kind. I do not have long and have to go but I was compelled to write you about the exciting news! I hope to hear from you soon and make sure to be nice to Neji.

Love,
Dad

Letter # 6

My dearest Prulynn,
I write to you today with many emotions springing from my quill. The kobold army hit the plantation three days ago but their forces were far greater than we could have ever expected. Dragons, Prulynn, they had dragons! The battle was intense and casualties were impossible to prevent but we, in the end, prevailed. The day was won and the plantation was held in a spectacular show of valor and compassion…But not without a grave cost. Eggbert has fallen. He fought well and many kobold fell to our combination of righteous fury but a dragon struck a mortal blow that I could not prevent. I grieve for him with intensity that I never thought I would feel again until my days were near their end. I miss him so much and I know that you will, as well, share in my remorse. I gave him a beautiful resting place at the top of a hill of the plantation and, when this is all over, we will visit it together. You never realize how much the loss of a companion of his caliber can impact your every day routines until it happens. Please take care of Eggsby, Prulynn, she is a treasure and the last of a noble Ostrich bloodline and, one day, I’m sure she will live up and surpass everything that Eggbert stood for. I will not be able to write for a small time due to some complications that need to be taken care of but I will write again as soon as I have the chance.

Stay well, my love,
Dad
