A paruseptra is an elevated being, a type of cosmic agent similar to a norn that has certain powers pertaining to the World it inhabits. Paruseptra is derived from an old term, probably of Mavan origin, that suggests the idea of a powerful protector or keeper.

A paruseptra is distinct from a norn in that it is centered around protection of the lifeforms on a World and the World’s supernatural laws. While a norn is more concerned with the deterministic agency of living beings (that is, the preservation of their free will by guiding the tides of time and destiny), a paruseptra is directly connected to the physical and spiritual safety of living creatures.

A paruseptra could be thought of as a ruler or police chief that keeps watch over a World. This implies a kind of supreme authority in the World itself, so that even the activities of supernatural forces such as fey, angels, or other creatures, would be subject to the rule of the paruseptra.

Though a World could theoretically have multiple norns and multiple paruseptra, legends and lore from early times typically refer to “the Paruseptra,” as if to say there is only one.

It follows that a paruseptra somehow works alongside a World’s norns.
