Dark Will
Dark Will is a manifestation of negative probability that occurs when some universal laws are tampered with as a result of free will. It also occurs when the free will of mortal beings would be directed by partial sources, such as Heaven or Hell.
Dark Will is a corruption of Will, an error in its coding, which becomes confounded by the paradox generated by free will. When this happens, the Will compensates for the outcome by shifting around its priorities, often causing unexpected or unfortunate side effects that commonly lead to an increase in mortal tragedy.
Dark Will is also a binding chain for beings who are enlightened, such as spirits. As Dark Will is accumulated by their actions, it gathers within their very soul, and slowly builds until they are rerouted into Hell. Once in Hell, only the most powerful of souls can escape, as the pull of Cocytus slowly drags all beings tainted by Dark Will into its icy vortex. Lucifer himself fell to such a fate after the resurrection of the Logos, causing the structure of Hell to change drastically.
Dark Will has several mechanical points. Whenever a character would act, consider how appropriate it is given their knowledge of the universe. An uninitiated human who erred would probably gather very little, but an angel or demon would gather a large sum for a relatively small offense.
Generally, Dark Will is accumulated when free will is violated. Guiding mortals against their destinies, killing the living, causing unrest in the world, ignoring the laws of death, and providing mortals with the intelligence to act is a grand sin, as witnessed by the events in Eden.
Dark Will, once accumulated, is very difficult to remove.
Here is the mechanical significance of Dark Will:
Dark Will is a sum of negative probability that gathers when the Will of God, a massive network of mystical parameters devised to determine the outcomes of free will, is directly violated. Dark Will is a dangerous substance, causing universal “glitches” that lead to famines, crime, natural disasters, and personal ruin. Whenever a character would do something that would violate universal law, he must make a Will save against 15 + the circumstance modifier of his action + 1 for each point of Dark Will he has accumulated. If he passes, he gains no Dark Will, but if he fails he gains a sum of Dark Will.
Each point of Dark Will grants you a -1 cumulative penalty to your Fortitude saves against massive damage and energy loss, and makes you easier to detect by spiritual creatures.
