Rise: Cogito

A type of bullet infused with the essence of a spirit. By creating a bullet of spiritual energy and binding it with seven Hermetic seals, it becomes possible to trap the spiritual bullet within a real bullet. When this is accomplished, the result is a piece of ammunition that can harm both the material and the spiritual at once.

These bullets, nicknamed “Taps” (derived from the military tradition of playing a trumpet in memory of a fallen soldier), are created by members of COGITO and then shipped to the various Estate branches in order to give them some means of defending themselves from particularly vicious Breakers.

Each member receives one magazine of Taps a month. Use of these bullets are carefully documented, and a member that expends a Taps recklessly may be disciplined. After extensive battle, Estate investigation teams extract all expended Taps from the area of the incident, in order to properly control the flow of information regarding their methods and to prevent anything from being traced back to them in the event of a mishap.

A Tap looks like a normal bullet, but a careful look reveals that it is carefully inscribed with a magical circle on the cap. This circle contains seven magical seals that focus a sum of spiritual energy in the tip of the bullet. Upon contact with spiritual matter, the seals release and deal severe damage to whatever is unfortunate enough to be in the blast zone.
