Arak's journal
Entry 2
Things just can’t go smoothly here, can they?
Investigated the mines with the others. Turns out the townsfolk unearthed the lair of something called magmen. Look like great firey halflings or some such. All I know is that they hit pretty hard for their size. I suppose they were just trying to protect their eggs which seem to look a lot like rubies.
In the end, the monsters were slain, though not without a fair bit of arguing and debate over what’s right and who owns the mine. In the end, the wilds lost. Though we had a bit of help from a rather large earth creature. Seemed to brush off my rounds like they were nothing, which is a new experience for me.
Got back to town and was invited, with the rest of this group, to visit the mayor’s residence. By none other than his daughter. Likely going to need to keep an eye on Silvervine. The last thing I need is a mob thinking that someone I associate with has defiled their leader’s daughter. Fingers’ll end up pointed and inevitably it will end up being my fault.
We didn’t make dinner, though. Our carriage got waylaid on the way there. But the largest, most disgusting bird I’ve ever lain eyes on. The thing swooped down, grabbed our driver, who has one hell of an arm might I add, and tried to make off with him, with Silvervine on its back. I took the thing down, though. Likely the best two shots of my career. We’ll see how the town reacts to that. Maybe the guards will stop giving me so much shit.
In the meantime, we have Silvervine and the driver recuperating under the care of the priests of the sun goddess. I’m staying the night in the temple while their head priest tries to analyze the enchantments on my rifle. I’m hoping I can avoid going to the dwarven temple across town for as long as possible. But I’m not holding my breath. Things don’t seem to have been going my way recently.
Entry 1
Well. We’ve been in this piss-hole of a town for less than a day and we’re already in it. Between that prick of a guard captain and all the dwarves around here I’m feeling quite at home.
Not all of it has been bad though. Stopped by the temple to the sun goddess and seem to be gaining trust there. I suppose there’s something to be said for the religions of these people, though I was not expecting to see so much blood in one of their temples. Seemed more like a medic tent from back home. Still. The place helped me and Thomas lose our tail and make a few friends. After our stop there we headed to Mack’s. Much nicer place than I suspected it would be, and the owner seems nice enough. Wasn’t quite so judgmental though I had to put up with quite a few comments from her.
Ended up with a job here. Rooting out some monsters from a mine. Shouldn’t be too difficult, but we’ll see what happens come morning. In the meantime, I’m sleeping with my back to a wall and my rifle pointed at the door.
