The Tale so Far

A curious ring, an unusual comatose man, a mad professor, and a stranger who seemingly disappears into thin air. What do they have in common? Are they all somehow related? Only time will tell…

MESSAGE INTERCEPTED AND DECODED. ORIGIN: UNKNOWN. DESTINATION: UNKNOWN.

MESSAGE FOLLOWS:

Boston, MA, July, 2007. In an effort to plumb the depths of the unknown and to bring to light long forgotten knowledge; Alex Belmont stumbles upon an area outside of Boston that is rumored to be a site of paranormal activity. Formerly a semi-popular tourist attraction, the Burial Mounds have begun to fall into obscurity; now only an oddity occasionally frequented by teenagers hoping to steal a kiss (or more) while remaining far away from the prying eyes of society. While investigating the area, Belmont managed to find some tracks that lead to a small clearing, a short distance from the main burial mound site. Here, he discovered an area littered with tracks that seemed to indicate a group of individuals moving in rhythmic, ritualized steps as well as the remains of a large bonfire. Within the remains of the bonfire, he discovered a ring inscribed with an unusual set of runes.

Upon further research, Belmont found information that seemed to indicate the runes were done in a style that combined Egyptian hieroglyphs with Viking runes, two seemingly disparate groups. Even more unusual, he discovered a professor at a local Boston university that until a few months ago specialized in the study of these cultures, who, according to his students, went completely mad and has not been seen or heard from since. Due to Belmont’s relentless pursuit (and with the assistance of one.. “eager” student), he has managed to acquire this professor’s e-mail address; though whether he will actually receive a worthwhile response remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, across town at Boston Medical Center, Dr. Caitlin Stone has begun investigation and treatment of an unusual individual currently residing as an in-patient at the CBR Institute for Biomedical Research. The patient is a man who seems to be in his early-mid twenties, thin build, with shoulder length black hair, dark eyes, and pale skin. Height 6’0”, weight 194.7 lbs. His brain activity is indicative of an individual in a coma, though no signs of assault can be found upon his body .It is possible his condition is a result of something blood borne that cannot be identified by current methods, and as such, the research institute has asked for Dr. Stone’s assistance, as she is a well-regarded hematologist and expert in her field. So far she has discovered some unusual qualities of the patient’s blood, but nothing that would explain his unresponsive state. While working on other research, she was called back to the research institute to examine the patient; while there she encountered an usual man who seemingly appeared from nowhere, claimed to be the patient’s brother, and just as quickly vanished into nothingness when Dr. Stone (wisely) called for security and leveled her revolver at him.

Stone and Belmont, who apparently have some sort of intimate relationship, have begun to collaborate on investigations (or at least, Stone has begun to assist Belmont in his investigations; Dr. Stone’s Hippocratic Oath will likely prevent her from speaking in detail of her own unusual findings). While Belmont is no fool, Stone’s keen intellect and ability to quickly find and disseminate information will prove to be invaluable to him; they could prove to be a very dangerous pair and one that we should certainly continue to watch. I will continue to observe and provide reports until another course of action is decided upon.

I live to serve. Agent out.

END TRANSMISSION.
