Character Creation
Character Creation Guidelines
- Ability Scores – All characters will be created using the standard point buy method to generate ability scores. Details for this system can be found on page 169 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide (DMG).
- Character Race – Initially available races will be based on the campaign’s starting location. The following races will be available at the beginning of the campaign (Note: A maximum of one Dwarf and one Halfling will be allowed – this is intended to reflect the smaller populations of these races in the opening location):
- Character Class – While other classes may/will come available as the game progresses, only the following classes will be permitted at campaign start (Note: with any listed restrictions):
- Bard
- Basiran Dancer
- Brigand
- Cleric
- Fighter
- Gladiator
- Infiltrator
- Paladin
- Ranger
- Rogue
- Shaman
- Sorceror (Elf only)
- Spellsinger
- Watchman
- Wizard
- Alignment/Religion – All characters will be of Good alignment, with Lawful Good preferred. As inhabitants of a polytheistic world, only Clerics and Paladins must select a patron deity (although any character is free to select one if desired). Clerics and Paladins may be of any Good aligned faith, with the Assembly of Light, Theater of the Arts, Church of the Life’s Fire, Courts of Justice and Church of the Night’s Beauty preferred.
- Origin – All characters must originate from Brandobia, with the kingdom of Cosdol preferred. The Racial Origins Chart on page 213 of the Kingdoms of Kalamar Player’s Guide is highly recommended to aid in selecting a place of origin. It may also be desired to freely select an origin location – so long as it is within Brandobia.
- Backstory – As the game begins with the party assembled by the Cosolen Military Academy, all character backstories must include details as to how and/or why the character came to be in Cosolen and more specifically how they came to be in association with this institution. Backstories should be as thorough as possible to provide the most immersive gameplay. The character history random tables from the Player’s Primer are also highly recommended to assist in getting a feel for the character.
