(Stagelucas: So I had this thing written out completely, about 600-800 words, and all nice and tidy. Then my computer, due to my own idiocy, irretrievably ate it. It was my own fault for not saving, like at all, so I can’t blame the computer too much. But it was a good narrative that I was quite proud of. I’m still a little mad at myself, so it will be a while before I re-write it. In the meantime, I’m going to post a synopsis of plot points that I want/need to cover, both for memory reasons as well as establishing character plot development that leads appropriately into the other stories.)
* Erica hates waiting, she’s good at it but she still hates it.
* Erica is at Jamie’s house during the morning between HMPC 1 & 2, unable to sleep.
* Playing her thinking guitar, previously gone to get her things from Auntie Em’s house, and is unable to sleep.
* Erica gets a “call” on her Paranet ring from Belle
* Erica feels horrible for only now remembering that her friends still think she’s been kidnapped
* Erica feels horrible for only now remembering that her friends still think she’s been kidnapped
* Erica opens a “channel” to the other Paranetters, explaining the situation and tell them that she’s going to have to go “offline” for a while until she resolves it.
** Donna (the Osteomancer Jamie-hater) complains that Erica is not doing her “job” as Relay, siting negligence due to personal irrelevant issues (ie her cat), and brings up Erica’s lack of resolve in creating a non-centralized Relay as borderline incompetence.
* Erica retaliates verbally, aggressive and tactless, siting the “volunteer status” of the Relay position as a counter, berating Donna in front of the rest of the Paranetters and partially winning & losing standing in front of the rest of the FC.

* Erica closes the channel, stating she will contact them if/when she can.
** Belle offers warm reassurances and potential help, but Erica refuses, siting ‘personal irrevelant issues’ (ie, it’s my cat) and desire to not risk anyone else over Hobbes’s welfare.
* Erica goes back to her thinking guitar, now more mad than afraid due to conflict with Donna.
** Erica resolves to finish her Paranet Relay project within the next month or so.
**** Donna was partially correct on some of her points, but didn’t need to be such a B**** about it.
* Erica wrestles with moral issues: putting her friends in danger, her blindness leading to her genuinely needing help with this situation, Hobbes possibly being tortured/already dead, desire to find out Hobbes status without putting friends at unnecessary risk, etc., loop and repeat…

Ugh. Sorry you lost your draft. I’ve done that before and felt the same way. It’s hard to re-write something that had come out so well with the original draft! The synopsis is good for now, though.
Yeah, not fun. Been there. Though my best moment was when I was still at Reaper, spent 3 days creating a new web tool/database that cross compared the paint lines of four different companies yadda yadda yadda… lots of text… then in a moment of supreme brilliance, accidentally dropped the database table and lost it all forever. That was fun. Luckily some die hard fans had taken site backups so the data was saved… but I never recreated the tool/database.
I’ll just a ditto to the “That sucks” and the “Been there, done that – ugh.” But also – I anxiously await the re-write, because even where you’re dealing with serious stuff, you’ve got the Dresden-esque snark that makes me second-guess drinking anything while I read your webisodes for fear of spewage. :)
