Fief Cormryn
Geography
Fief Cormryn is a part of the Kingdom of Nerud and is situated on the Northeastern coast of the continent of Arda, between Fief Krastanov and Fief Nerud. To the West lies Fief Danforth, and northwest is Fief Craighead.
The bulk of the fief is occupied by the dense growth of the Waking Forest, which stretches from the southernmost portion of Fief Krastanov down into the northernmost part of Fief Nerud. Along the northern border of Fief Cormryn lies the Silvermere Lake, a darkwater lake left behind by receding glaciers at the end of the first age. The western coast is comprised mostly of towering limestone cliffs which gradually descend into Tal Mithan Bay. Feeding into the bay is the Dunmore River – a cold, spring-fed river that originates in the Misty Ridge Mountains to the east.
Politics
Prior to the fall of Uther
The fief was presided over by Duke Uther Cormryn, who made his home in the port village of Darrowshire with his wife Anastasia. By and large, Cormryn was regarded by his subjects as a just, fair and honorable leader, and he inspired fierce loyalty in the populace. The chief industry for the fief was fishing and the export of peat moss, which is used to fire stoves throughout the kingdom. In addition to Darrowshire, three smaller towns – Brynn, Hallowmas, and Summer's End – also operated in the fief, each with their own appointed governing council and a constable, who answered directly to the Duke. The fief mantained a standing army as well as a fief-wide courier service.
Of all five fiefs comprising the Kingdom of Nerud, Cormryn was the most peaceful. Most vagabonds, brigands and enclaves of aggressive humanoids were run out of the fief.
More recently
Since the downfall of the Kingdom, the fiefs have been dissolved under one rule. Uther Cormryn now reigns from Darrowshire, and has placed his allies in each of the other major cities of the kingdom. His armies of the living and dead march throughout the realm. As for the land that had been Fief Cormryn, much if it was laid to waste in the recent battles between Cormryn and Krastanov. All three of the former fief's smaller cities were razed and now lay mostly in ruins – the remaining people either living in hovels or in forced labor camps.
The land has also become more dangerous. In the short year that has passed since Cormryn assumed the throne of the Kingdom, many fell beasts have returned to roam the forests and hills.
