Primal scholars are spellcasters bent on uncovering and mastering the ancinet magic that lies buried in the jungles, deserts, and mountains or Xen’drik. While some draw this power from giant lore, others seek to learn the secrets of the quori or the dragons themselves. No matter the source of their knowldge, these driven scholars learn to tap the power of ancient magic and weave it into their own spells. In addition to explorers, many of the natives of Xen’drik have taken up this class, rediscovering the magic of their ancestors or former masters.

Xen’drik Lore (Ex): A primal scholar adds half his class level (minimum 1) to all Knowledge skill checks regarding Xen’drik and may make all Knowledge skill checks untrained. This replaces the wizard’s arcane bond.
Power of Xen’drik (Ex): The primal magic you tap into gives your spells more potency. At 5th level, you gain the ability to spend 1 hero point to reroll any one of the following variables of a spell that you have just cast with a bonus equal to ½ your class level.
- Attack roll
- Damage roll
- Caster level check
If a single spell requires one of these options to be rolled more than once, you can reroll only once. For example, spells that affect an area require a caster level check against each creature in the area that has spell resistance, but spending 1 hero point only allows you to reroll one of those checks (your choice).
You must choose to spend the hero point before the result of the original roll is known. You must take the result of the second roll, even if worse than the first. This replaces the wizard’s 5th level bonus feat.
Ancient Secret (Ex): Beginning at 10th level, a primal scholar’s study of the secrets of Xen’drik grant particular benefits. Choose one ancient secret from the table below every 5 levels after this (15th, 20th). Add your class level plus Intelligence modifier to determine which ancient secrets you can choose. You cannot choose the same secret twice. This replaces the wizard’s bonus feats at 10th, 15th, and 20th level.
|Class Level + Int Mod||Ancient Secret||Effect|
|11||Versed in magic||+3 competence bonus on Knowledge (arcana) and Spellcraft checks.|
|12||Secret of strength||+1 competence bonus on all caster level checks to overcome spell resistance.|
|13||Secret of defiance||+1 competence bonus on saves against spells and spell-like abilities.|
|14||Secret of power||Spend 1 hero point to regain a number of spells that you have already cast today. The total levels of the spells or spell slots regained can’t exceed your class level.|
|15||Mystery of magic||Choose one spell you can cast, up to a maximum level equal to your class level. You can now spontaneously cast that spell by sacrificing a spell of equal or higher level, even if you don’t have the chosen spell prepared.|
|16||Mystery of the giants||Choose any one metamagic feat that you know with a spell level adjustment no greater than your class level. You can spend a number of action points equal to the spell level adjustment of the feat (minimum 1) to apply that feat to any spell you cast without increasing the spell’s level or casting time.|
|17||Mystery of the quori||Choose one spell you can cast with a normal casting time of one standard action, of a level equal to your class level or lower. You can spend 2 action points to cast that spell as an immediate action. If you normally prepare spells, you must have a spell prepared to cast it in this way.|
|18 or higher||Mystery of Xen’drik||Choose one of your known spells, of a level equal to your class level or lower. You can spend 2 hero points to cast that spell without counting it against your daily limit. If you normally prepare spells, you need not have prepared a spell to cast it in this way.|
