Saurite is the academic term for an ancient lizardfolk civilization that rose and fell eons before the present day. Centered in what is now a vast bog, at their height, the Saurites had a highly developed society, with a strong oral literature tradition. Their architecture was also remarkable, melding stone and magically-sculpted vegetation. Many “magical biotechnologies” of the saurites have been lost.

The scholars of Miterimas university divide Saurite history into several periods:

• Early, or Girotite
• Warring
• Green
• High green
• Empire
• Late Empire
• Spawning

At the end of the Late Empire, a great cataclysm shattered the Saurite empire and decimated their population. During the Spawning period, the lizardfolk reproduced at an extremely high rate, but at a cost: the average intelligence of the race declined precipitously.
