The problems with the skill challenges put forth by these fine fellows:
Has led me to use the Errata for the DMG.
As mentioned in Ruling Skill Challenges the Aid Another rule was not intended to be used with Skill Challenges. So I’ll be using 2 different types of “Skill Situations”
As written in the DMG, with the exception that Aid Another is not allowed. Here, everyone makes individual skill rolls, with the total number of successes leading up to a Victory. Thinking outside the box is rewarded here.
If you’re presented with a large social interaction or a complex problem (like how to get the people in the caravan rooms for the night) that involves more than one person and one skill check, it’s usually a Skill Challenge.
This will likely be a single skill roll, and Aid Another is allowed (and may be necessary). The DC is likely to be 5 higher than the “Hard” Column below.
Getting the group to pull the Dwarf out of the well would be a single Skill Check where everyone is helping to do one single thing.
