Overview

Of all the nations on the continent of Ghelspad, perhaps even the entirety of Scarn, it is the nation of Calastia whose people are the best fed, the best protected from titanspawn, and from the lowest slave to the highest noble live their entire lives with the assurance of a strong rule of law. Since the rise of The Black Dragon, King Virduk, those members of the nobility who had previously abused their subject met with a swift and brutal end and his Queen Galeeda established a haven for Halflings, a race persecuted on much of the continent.

Calastian peace has required secure borders at home and assuring open trade abroad leading outsiders to complain of Virduk “voracious” appetite for conquest. The Calastian people of course recognize these complaints for the petty jealously they represent. The people of neighboring Hedrada, once conquered by Calastian armies, they point out have been afforded the full rights of Calastian citizen and even mostly local rule, so long as they take an oath of loyalty to the empire and do not attempt to rebel. Meanwhile, on the savage lands of Termana, Calastian governance is serving as a civilizing influence and someday the residents of Calastian colonies there will be ready for full citizenship as well.
