Sorry about the quality of this. I am intending to create a better one sometime, rather than one done in ten minutes with whatever stationery was at hand. Just so you know, yellow is desert, dark green is forest, light green is swamp, pencil denotes national borders, the crossed circles are important cities (currently just the capitals and Orruk), the spiky things are mountains, the round things are hills, the hatched black line is enscarpment and blue is water. -Skewed
This is your world. It is called many things by its inhabitants, Haertlund to the humans, Gûntera to the dwarves, Sureanis to the elves, Forveedi to the gnomes and Fak-Gnom to the hobgoblins, to name just a few. Bordered to the north by desert, east and south by deep forests, and west by the sea, the land is home to many.
To the north are the hobgoblin tribelands of Grul-Zoth, separated from the southern nations by a massive enscarpment rather imaginitively called The Wall. The tribes of Grul Zoth have never unified, preferring constant tribal infighting to the difficulty of launching an attack up The Wall, and thus lacks a Capital city.
South of The Wall and residing in the center of the continent (the Heart of the Haertlund, as they like to say) is the human kingdom of Dumeria. It is bordered to the east and south by the Bund River and Lake Bundenbrandt. The capital of Dumeria is the city of Merrukstan.
Directly facing onto the southeast shores of Lake Bundenbrandt is the elven nation of Ciliara. Further south and east of Ciliara is nothing but uncharted forest wilderness. The nation is guided by a ruling council, who convene in the elven capital of Mialaera.
West of Grul-Zoth, the Salt Fens and the Sea Wall lies an archipelago known as the Glittering Isles, which is home to the great gnome fleets. The fleets are directed by the Wavelady or Wavelord from Sailhold, which is as much a capital as the gnomes have.
In the northern Dragonsback Mountains lies the dwarven theocracy of Khar-Thûm. The kingdom is for the most part underground, with the largest significant aboveground settlement being Orruk. Khar-Thûm is administered from the capital, Krontz.
