Nicholas Myra High School
Nicholas Myra High School (NMHS) is an experimental charter school located in the SE district of Washington, D.C.
NMHS is located in a rough area of DC and is notable for its strong alternate education program (traditionally known as vocational educational), remedial education, a strong after school program, and a close relationship with local non-profits for the community service component of the academic program. The school has gradually grown to incorporate a neighboring middle school and covers grades 6-12 within the two building school.
NMHS is run by a dynamic and personable administrator, Jim Richards, who seems too good to be true, having come from a corporate background to manage a school that people aren’t sure will survive the next set of budget cuts. However, he has a loyal following within the school as he manages to provide leadership and not micro-management for the educators.
