583 years ago, something people refer to as The Event occurred. Nobody knows exactly what happened, but the result was that the land once known as China was turned into a gigantic crater. The dust from the crater blocked out the sun for 20 years, eradicating much life on the planet and driving those that did survive underground. When they emerged, the world was a very different place.
There was no magic. None at all. To survive in this new world lacking in plant and animal life, people needed to develop other means of supporting them selves. Within 400 years civilisation had reached the point of the industrial revolution, now 583 years since The Event, civilisation is much as it was in the original 1996 juncture, making their rate of technological progress 4 times faster than normal.
However, the rapid pace of progress hasn’t come without a cost. Society wasn’t ready to develop this quickly and there is widespread unrest, fractured military and scientific factions and of course, those survivors of futures erased that have explored the Netherworld and found this new juncture. Various participants of The Secret War are here, trying to find out what happened and spreading their influence.
