Year 824, Elevenmonth, Day 24 – Earthday
During our stake out, a man named Raedwolf wandered into the city and I followed him. He acted suspiciously by slipping down and alley way, so I called out and asked him if he was responsible for the disappearance of the children. To my surprise, he said yes! When I tried to take him in, he said that he hadn’t said that. The voices did sound a bit different, and later I found that it was a trick by the spryte that had made the sound. Before that was revealed though, we took him to see the chancellor, who offered him the same deal. After that, we were all crammed back into the small, dirty room where we were to stay the night. Bryte and I shared the bench, so I avoided getting too dirty and again kept my back hidden.
I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about Bryte coming along. Part of me is happy, of course, but another part was hoping to finally be on my own. To my surprise, he was a complete gentleman during the night. Anyway, I write this from an underground tunnel we found. This morning, we ventured into the sewers that supply the city with fresh water. From there we went lower into the waste sewers and found out that the dracha has a weak stomach. After following the sewers in the direction of the exit to the town, we came across an unnatural hole in the brickwork of the walls. It lead to an unnatural, earthen tunnel. We’ve traveled all day and found nothing save half a shoed footprint. I hope we are on the right path.
