Traveller and Beyond

May 10, 2013 13:35

The crew finishes reviewing the audio and video logs of the crew of the Traveller and learn a bit about some races and events in the distant area of the galaxy that the Traveller had gone to. (Everything you learned is in the wiki, Nerak, Pherxal, Dark Wraith, Corrosive End and the Green Bloom. I don’t feel the need to recap this info as it’s already on the respective wiki pages). More imporantly at the very end of the logs, the Traveller wound up being put in the position to decide the ultimate fate of the Nerak, death or full sentience. They chose full sentience, and the Pherxal AI uploaded schematics for a genevirus which will unlock the Nerak’s full potential sentience ultimately turning them into a different race.

Following the jump back into the Torner System they recieve two important messages, one from Eric Chin telling them he wishes to speak to them as soon as possible, and another from Kateshi Borovics telling them not to speak to anyone except him and to meet him at the Zero G-String. Disregarding both messages Crater urges the crew to head directly to Formire since it’s datanet is compromised now would be the perfect time for some mayhem and destruction, RAGC style. The plan is thwarted as OPS ships are there in force, manually checking every ship that enters the system. An OPS frigate queries the Pull Out and then asks them to park their ship and prepare to be boarded as there is a warrant out for the crew’s interrogation. Not wanting to find out what that was about they immediately jump to the Dorgo System and meet up with Kateshi Borovics.

Kateshi Borovics introduces the crew to one of his assets, Reya Mernen and proceeds to tell the crew about how OPS has been using AIME to keep constant track of what they are doing and where they are. As a measure of good faith Kateshi Borovics gives the crew an illegal datawipe module to clear out the ships memory as well as correct AIME so she stops recording everything for OPS. He also explains that someone is trying to start a war between OPS and The Prime and that himself and the crew were being played as pawns. Tom Cumberland tells Kateshi Borovics of their findings on the logs of the Traveller and Kateshi Borovics becomes very thoughtful. He offers to work as a middle man and sell the knowledge about giving the Nerak sentience to a few very interested parties and explains that with the money earned from the sale that the crew could start up it’s own corporation. After some negotiation, it’s decided that the new corporation will be completely owned and run by the crew, with Kateshi Borovics acting as an advisor as well as overseeing most day to day affairs. With the sale taking a couple of weeks to accomplish, as well as finding a suitable place for the new corporate headquarters, Kateshi Borovics asks the crew for a favor. A friend of his, Daryl Bingen has gone off the grid, presumably made a run for it to get out of OPS control and is now thought to be living on a The Prime world in the Tortoise System and the crew agrees to extract him as he would be a valuable asset to their corporation.

Before leaving Horlo Station, and elderly Yar asks to be taken on as an observer. In return he offers his services as well as knowledge of Yar society (which is in the Yar wiki page, i updated it to include all the new info). A short meeting with Eric Chin ensues on the way to the Tortoise System. Eric is unable to find any trace of nanonukes onboard the Pull Out forcing him to let the crew go with a warning that he will be keeping close tabs on them.

From Bastion to the Traveler

March 27, 2013 20:49

After the Battle of Bastion and a week of R&R (rest and recover), the crew of the Pull Out are summoned to meet with the general of the human forces opposing the Nerak on Ferdan. He informs them that the human forces have taken many losses, but it is time to take the offensive. He briefs them on their mission. A small craft was enroute to deliver an anti-matter bomb into the maw of a Nerak birther, a large organism that lives inside a mountain, one end, a mouth that “eats” organic material and that the other end later produces into new Nerak. It is into that mouth that the bomb must be placed.
The mission notes follow:

  • HALO jump to the small ship
  • Secure the anti-matter bomb
  • Deliver bomb to the maw of the Birther 6 klicks south of the ship.

As the crews’ infiltration ship nears the jump zone everyone readies their equipment and prepares for the battle ahead. The rear bay door opens. The sound of the wind is overcoming as the team looks down into the clouds that cover their approach. One after the next jump from the craft, Col. Regrom, Crater, Gambit, Archie B-Hole, Doc, Reynold, and Tom enter free fall as they plummet towards the ground below. Having repacked his chute and thinking of glory, Tom waits longer than the rest to pull his ripcord. His daring pays off as his boots hit the ground first clearing the LZ. Everyone lands successfully and the crew regroups. Tom Cumberland and Gambit take point and lead the group to the first objective.

With the ship in sight, Gambit and Tom charge inside as 3 sttealthy Nerak appear and engage Crater, Archie and Reynold. Reynold is critically wounded in the left arm and falls stunned while Crater wolverines the Nerak near him to death. Archie B-Hole teleports. The remaining Nerak disappears as Archie B-Hole rematerializes next to Tom and begins concentrating. Moments later, the Nerak appears next to Tom who cuts the beasts head off with his sword, but not before taking a wound to his right leg. The crew finishes off the last Nerak and assess the situation. Doc and Col. Regrom tend the wounded and the crew break down into fireteams.

Fireteam Alpha
Col. Regrom
Tom Cumberland
Reynold

Fireteam Bravo
Crater
Archie B-Hole
Doc
Gambit

Fireteam Alpha stays with the ship and gets it into working order while Fireteam Bravo sets out to secure the bomb and destroy the birther. Tom Cumberland butchers the nearby Nerak and starts barbecuing them while Col. Regrom and Reynold watch Fireteam Bravo’s progress on the flatscreen attached to the rear of the ship. Tom puts flame to his broken lightbulb and smokes some tetrameth, he offers some to his comrades, but being squares, they decline.

Fireteam Bravo travel the 6 klicks to the last known location of the team with the bomb. FT Bravo stay in hiding while the Nerak strip the flesh from the dead humans that went before them. After the flesh is harvested, some of the Nerak leave and 4 Nerak remain, a pair of drones and a pair of archers, securing the area. Archie hatches a plan and after concentrating for some time manages to teleport amidst the 4 Nerak blowing FT Bravo’s cover. Battle ensues Doc fells 2 Nerak as Crater finishes another. Gambit kills the last, but takes a blow in the melee. FT Bravo secures the time bomb. Gambit leads the team to an over look over the maw, leading them long way around. From their vantage point, a wooded area littered with Nerak lies between them and the maw. Crater sets the timer for 120 minutes and secures it to a rocket which he loads into his rpg. He fires. Direct hit! FT Bravo starts running back to the ship as the Nerak below see the rocket trail and give chase.

FT Alpha brings the ship in for EVAC and Crater and Gambit board first followed by Archie B-Hole then Doc, who tripped and fell. Reynold goes full throttle as Col. Regrom and Crater blast away on the turret guns. 8 predators latch onto the ship during the escape. Tom blasts one on the windshield as Reynold starts losing control of the ship because of the predators. Crator and Gambit kill two others as Tom jumps onto the helm console and leans out of the shattered windshield to kill a predator near the cockpit. Reynold regains control of the ship. Tom climbs onto the top of the ship and shoots another predator while Doc, Col. Regrom, and Archie B-Hole blast holes through the roof of the ship into predators. In the distance, a huge explosion goes off as the anti-matter bomb explodes prematurely. The crew makes it back to Bastion, mission successful. They take their mandatory week of leave and get paid 25,000 each for their month of service. The crew enjoys their time on Ferdan before heading back to the ship, Gambit with his newly purchased cat with hands.

Back aboard the Pull Out the crew receive an urgent transmission from Eric Chin. He asks the crew for a favor. They are to head to System S47-239 and find the ship the Traveller and to determine it’s demise and then destroy the craft. En route to System S47-239, the crew have a collective dream fueled by Archie B-Hole’s psychosis where they stop at Roe Titus, a space station, and pick up some reseach materials from William Johnson II, but that’s another story.

As a result of the group dream, command changes from Col. Regrom into the hands of Crater. The Pull Out reaches the Traveler and they scan the ship. The only beacon is from the bridge. Crater breaks the crew into 3 fire teams:

Fireteam Alpha
Rear Admiral Crater
Gambit
Objective: Secure Armory

Fireteam Bravo
Tom Cumberland
Reynold
Archie B-Hole
Objective: Secure Bridge and bring back Comm Logs

Fireteam Charlie
Regrom
Doc
Objective: Secure Engineering

Tethering lines were shot into the Traveller and the crew took a shuttle to the explore the ship. Fireteam Alpha found the armory non-existent and headed back to the shuttle. Fireteam Charlie argued their way to Engineering and still could not decide who was the better doctor. Fireteam Bravo, under the command of Tom Cumberland, made their way to the bridge. Through the dim light they saw a child sitting in the middle of the room, the light created a large green shadow behind the child. The child began speaking to them as Tom ordered Archie B-Hole to get the comm logs. Archie warily entered the room and began retrieving the comm logs when he was stricken by some unknown source and fell unconscious as his arm began to wither away. Tom and Reynold made a tactical retreat and Tom ordered Reynold back to the shuttle with great haste. Tom, with sword drawn, lie in wait to ambush the space child and called for protocol “Pull Out.” Upon hearing protocol “Pull Out,” Col. Crater and Gambit readied the shuttle for departure as Reynold showed up. Looking through the shuttle’s cockpit they saw an ethereal child backstroking towards the Pull Out followed by a large green shadow. They took off back to the Pull Out, leaving Regrom and Doc yelling and slamming their fists against the departing shuttle. Meanwhile, Tom rescued Archie B-Hole and carried him back to where Regrom and Doc were, bitching about Crater leaving them.

The shuttle barely makes it aboard the Pull Out as it gets under way as those remaining on the Traveller grab onto a tethering line and begin pulling themselves toward the Pull Out. Crater, Gambit and Reynold head to the bridge of the Pull Out to face the space child and his shadow. Reynold has a spell cast upon him and is overcum with ecstasy in his vacc suit, rendering him useless. Crater and Gambit close on the child, Crater cuts off it’s arm and Gambit finishes it. The remaining crew is pulled aboard. Reynold cleans out his vacc suit then takes the helm as Crater eases back into the captains chair with Gambit at his side. Doc and Regrom keep arguing about doctoring, while Archie B-Hole concentrates. Tom Cumberland heads to the galley with Gambit’s cat, that he has befriended with cooking scraps, and makes dinner for the crew of the Pull Out.

The Battle of Baston

February 17, 2013 23:06

Upon arriving to Ferdan (sp?), the everyone learns about the logistics of the operation they are about to undertake. A grand battle is happening on the planet, however it’s been determined that the group is more valuable supporting the 3rd Battalion Special Ops group which has sustained heavy losses with only two remaining soldiers. The commanding officer is Shark, a lady easy on the eyes, but not one to cross. Kid, the other remaining member of the unit, is easy going and appears to be in his 50’s.
In conversation, the group discovers that Shark’s lover, Derek Auron (sp?), is currently supporting at an observation post outside of the hot zone.

She explains that this outpost is very important and collecting valuable data about the enemy movement. There has recently been shitty weather and communication from the outpost has gone silent. There were also reports that the technology systems have been spotty. The group is to fly the one click to the outpost location and sweep the area. If the outpost has been attacked or overrun, the group must recover the data from the databanks in the basement of the sensor tower and, if any of the 5 outpost staff has been killed, cremate the bodies to prevent incubation the aliens.

The group forms two teams.
• Team 1 included Crater, Gambit, and Shark.
• Team 2 included Tom Cumberland and J. Archibald Kugleblitz (aka Blackhole).
• Col. Regrum will provide cover fire from the drop point, while;
• Kid remains in the ship providing any necessary areal support.

As the ship lands, Team 1 swings north to clear the warehouse while Team 2 swings south to clear the two residences. Col. Regrum sets up a blind and takes begins observing the outpost. He spots several hostiles in camp huddled together, watching as one of the outpost staff’s body is dragged from a building.

Team two reacts, moving into a position so they can surprise the hostile aliens.

(Round 1 – 3)

Gambit sneaks up on one of the aliens and decides to tickle it with his sai. A moment later, the beast turns on Gambit, first spitting then attempting to spike him. Gambit seems to welcome the oral excretion but deftly dodges the spike. He suddenly notices that the spit has slightly weakened his armor. Gambit swings with all his might but misses as the Nerak dodges. Gambit shifts his weight and attempts to stab the foe in the head, but misses again. The Drone spits, covering Gambits helm in the acidic substance, but misses once again as Gambit dodges out of the way of the attack.

Crater, never the subtle one, switches to full-auto mode and provides suppressing fire on the group, completely demolishing one of the drones. After this quick success, he decides he doesn’t need any fancy suppressing fire but complete misses the Nerak (sp?) as the scurry for cover. He turns to one of the nearby Nerak, taking aim and cutting it in half.

Col. Regrum, gauging his shot at over 1,000 yards (-15 mod), adjusts for the wind to severely wound one of the drones with his first shot and killing it with his second.

Team 2 jumps into the action as Tom begins providing cover as Blackhole dashes to an advanced position. Tom kills one archer and takes aim on anther while Blakehole continues to his offensive position. One of the drones fire at Tom, but he tumbles quickly behind cover and take aim at another alien.

(Round 4 – 7)

The Nerak in battle with Gambit spews its acidic saliva upon his leg and critically wounding his left arm with its spike. Gambit retreats a few steps and pulls out his shotgun, unhappy with his failure to even hit the Narack with his sai. Gambit tries to blast the drone with his shotgun, but the Nerak dodges and closes the distance between the two. Before the Narak can crash into him, Gambit tumbles from its path as the drone stumbles past. Gambit turns and fires from his hip basting the drone as it stumbles, finally killing it.

Crater take aim, and decimates his next target, hitting it in the head, stomach and left arm. (He’s on fire) He swings the barrel and while the next Nerak is able to evade a few shots, several find their mark. Killing his 5th Narak, crater continues surveying the landscape for movement.

Col. Regrum take aim, choosing his next victim.

Tom continues aiming for a moment then lets loose his volley, winging an archer in the foot leaving nothing but a stump. Another drone fires back at Tom, but he dodges once again. All of a sudden another Archer fires two bone spurs at Tom, wounding his right leg and left arm.

Blackhole dives towards his final destination as Col. Regrum blasts the arm off one of the final drones. As Blackhole begins providing cover for Tom’s advance; Tom takes aim and kills the final Nerak who had been attacking them.

The area appears clear and Teams 1 and 2 begin moving to clear buildings.

Both teams notice a radio tower in the middle of the outpost. Cater decides it would be a good position from which to observe the entire area and reloads as he makes his way into position.

Team 1 moves into position and prepares to breach the warehouse as Team 2 moves into position, ready to breach Civilian Quarters A.

Team 2: The Quarters
Team 2 breaches and encounters a barbed Nerak. It swings one tentacle out ensnaring Tom in its grapple while a second strikes out towards Blackhole who teleports to a tactical position and opens fire, decimating its left leg.

Tom reacts switly dacing the creature with three bulltes to the face. Col. Regrum sees the commotion through the door and fires, also hitting the Nerack in the head.

Suddenly, another foe breaks down a door from an internal room and lunges at Blackhole only to miss and slam into the wall. While his back was turned, the barbed Nerak spears Blackhole in the stomach which causes Blackhole to pass out.

Col. Take aim and kills the bladed narak, freeing Tom who it quickly becomes clear was being held by his testicles (Elite Kill). Tom kills the final Narak and drags Blackhole to an open location where he can be loaded onto the ship.

Team 1: The Warehouse
At the same time that Team 2 explores the quarters, Team 1 begins breaching the warehouse. Several Nerak are observed and Gambit takes aim at a Narak. Rather than wait, Crater fires through the wall, taking out a drone. The Narack turn and begin moving into position and at that moment, Gambit opens fire, crippling the right hand of the drone at which he is aiming. While the Narak scatter, Gambit opens fire again further decimating the bloody stump of the alien he was aiming at.

Shark pops out of nowhere having maintained her hiding position until this moment. She misses two straight volleys of bullets earning the nickname Jinx

Crater fires through the wall again cutting the legs from an advancing Nerak, forcing it to a bloody death. Gambit shoots from the hip, missing and as he fires again, Jinx also fires and the last remaining Narak’s body is filled with lead.

Final Assault
After loading Blackhole into the ships medical bay, Crater decides to join Col. Regrum in the ship in one of the gunner stations. Shark and Gambit enter the radio station and explore its depths. They find the databank and Shark begins disassembling and removing the data systems. Just then, a Nerak horde descends upon the outpost.
“Get your asses up here” Crater shouts into the comm to Gambit and Shark.
“I need more time” Shark yells back. Crater and the Col. Open fire upon the descending Nerak killing the entire horde.

Defending Bastion
Upon the ship, Shark receives communication indicating that the Bastion will be under attack by a sizable for in less than 30 minutes. At top speed, the ship can get there in just about 2 hours. During the flight, the Col. Heals Blackhole’s and Tom’s injuries while Sharke tends to Crater and Gambit. The group then readies for an overwhelming assault of Narek upon the Basion.

As the ship descends near Baston, it receives cover from two others which appear from space. One of the support ships take out a mobile hive while the other begins laying fire upon ground troops. A swarm of predators pour from the burning mobile hive and begins swarming the first ship. The predators overwhelm the ship leading the systems to fail and driving the ship into the ground setting off a nuclear reaction and creating a huge crater right in the middle of the advancing Narak forces. The crew is exposed to high levels of radiation from the crash, however it appears Gambit reacts particularly poorly.

As the group arrives to the wall, the Narak assault reaches its base. Suddenly, the ground inside the wall explodes and a horde of Narak pour forth breaching the walls with their mad tunneling skillz.

The battle unfolds with both sides taking aim.

The group snaps into action. Crater moves up to the mortar stand and Tom finds a better position. Blackhole pulls a frog grenade and Shark readies her weapon. Col. Redrum rounds the corner and shoots from the hip into the Narak destroyers which came from the hole.

A small, weirdly shaped Narak rushes one of the four mortar stations and explodes leaving a crater where it once stood. Crater, standing near the burning rubble of the mortar station, grabs one of the mortar rounds and begins fashioning a bomb to plug the hole dug inside of the defenses.

A destroyer rushes Jinx (Shark) and rends her in half with three of its talon-like limbs. Col. Regrum reacts quickly firing a salvo of bullet into it, but it stands snarling at Gambit. Suddenly, a second hole opens up with a destroyer and more troops. Crater dashes to the first hole and tosses his makeshift bomb down the hole as two more destroyers advance.

Blackhole throws his grenade at the destroyer snarling at Gambit, but it fails to injure it. The destroyer, turns its attention to the biggest threat and advances on Col. Regrum. The destroyer smashes the Col’s right hand and cripples his left arm (torn muscles – 6 mo.) A shock bane appears for the explosion wracking the hole Crater through his makeshift bomb down.

A tank suddenly arrives and clears out the remaining suicide bomb Narak. Suddenly, as if out of nowhere, an elete group of Yar commandows show up. Their leader cuts one destroyer I half, the other two prove their worth battling the other destroyer.

More Narak pour out and a great battle takes place with both sides inflicting damage.

At this point, the notes become more difficult and this is getting too long.
Notable moments:
• Gambit fires his final two bullets into the face of a destroyer, killing it.
• Yar Shamman provides healing to Col. Regrum.
• Crater takes a shot in his left arm.
• The group defeats the initial wave and regroups for ongoing assult.
• Crater begins firing mortars at attacking forces.
• The Col. jimmy-rigs a contraption to shoot his sniper rifle with the use of his one good arm.
• Three more holes open up – more Narak pour out.
• Batallion of power-armored forces appear out of nowhere as reinforcements. They call to fall back.
• {Joe falls Asleep}
• The group begins fighting it’s way through its retreat path.
• Narak forces continue advancing
• Crater gets a triple kill.
• Group gets into a defensive position
• Artillery arrives blasting the mother hive and kid calls up telling everyone to get on the ship. Everyone gets aboard and the ship takes off.

12/8/12 The Search for UDWs on Formyre

January 27, 2013 12:23

In search of the nano weapons previously possessed by Blue Star Ray, the group heads to Formyre. This aquatic planet is inhabited by mostly humans in underwater cities. The OPS, being in control of the location, enforce strict weapon restrictions on the group. The vessel the group seeks, the Calvin’s Pride, has been taped off in dock and is being patrolled by local OPS law enforcement. The group inquires about Blue Star Ray, but can only learn that there has been a murder aboard the Calvin’s Pride, and the entire crew has been slaughtered.

Doc and Ramrod interrogate to the police further, and Ramrod demands access to surveillance footage. The police laugh, and threaten Ramrod with a long stay in superjail. Doc’s charismatic diversions allow for some information to be gained, along with a few drinks to be had. They learn seven bodies were slain by the Grey Heron gang (mostly likely), the laser wielding street gang. There were no crates discovered on the vessel (probably stolen!), and the security for the ship was down during the raid. The group decides to pursue the Grey Herons.

Archie, Crater, and Tom seek out the Grey Herons. After rebutted attempts to infiltrate the group for information, Tom and Craters intimidations force the Heron associates to grudgingly set up a meeting. Crater buys some tetrometh along with Tom and Archie.

At a treatment plant, Grater, Gambit, and Archie scout ahead of the meeting, but find mostly nothing. Ramrod and Doc perform city searches using the city’s cameras, which leads to Doc being arrested and put into jail. His bail is posted ($100). The treatment plant is indeed occupied by the Grey Herons, and a battle ensues between the Herons and their rival gang. The Herons wearing pink are annihilated by the green clad group, and their leader Jon Smith bargains with Doc for the cargo—the nanoweapons. Doc buys weapons for 5k.

Treatment plant erupts into flames as explosions rock back section. Pink reinforcements have arrived. Gambit and Crater shoot and get shot at, Doc moves strategically, and chaos ensues.

A strange brownly clad ally drops through the ceiling, defeating foes along with his allies, who noew surround the building. The pink enemies surrender. Arrangements are made regarding the weapons crate, along with discovering it contains seven UDWs, of which the group retains five.

Another battle ensues as enemies gather outside. The group defeats the enemies, then returns to their vessel and leaves Formyre.

First Game

December 03, 2012 09:36

Given a mission by Skymarshall Genevieve Artorias, the party descends into Terran City to capture Otto Dims, the leader of whats left of RAGC forces. They fought their way through the city, destroying some heavy weaponry along the way and finally found the underground bunker Otto is hiding in. A confrontation left a few party members suffering from radiation but Otto was ultimately captured. After interrogating Otto, he reveals that one of his compatriots, Blue Star Ray, is involved with a RAGC group turned terrorist group who has is currently smuggling some sort of nano detonator out of RAGC space. As part of the payment for their exemplary work, the group is offered an old RAGC ship, at a severly discounted price, to use as theirs. Once paid off through working for OPS they will be given all rights to the ship. The ship contains an experimental AI called AIME.
