Adventure log

Dateline: 16th September 2010cy, 6.30PM

The scene in the power plant is hellish. The newly born Child of Hastur writhes in the technomagical womb created for it over a century ago, slowly but surely extricating itself from it’s metal framework. Around it, the pale ghosts of almost half the Townspeople writhe as it feeds on their essences. Lightning arcs from place to place and the entire building reverberates with power as the earth itself shakes.

With an ear-splitting screech of metal, and a blast of howling mental pain, the beast begins to pull itself free – and you get your first clear look at it’s multi-tentacled and multi-dimensional form. The sight blasts at your sanity.

GMTown: ((Inits: Elder Thing, Orson, Fiona, Billy and Leroy-Hall, Mort is stunned))

GMTown: ::the Godling drags itself free and begins to suck life-force into itself, shades disappearing at an alarming rate as it grows even bigger. You all feal the pull on your own life essence::

GMTown: ::Hall’s spirit form seems to fray under the dragging force on it’s very being, yet he manages to deny the numbing agony::

Langy: :: Dr. Hall quickly surveys the Tesla-constructed aparatus birthing the horrid creature, trying to see if there are any weak points that, if damaged, could abort the birthing. ::

GMTown: ::Hall realizes that there are four tesla coils, oddly augmented with runes and sigils, still partly within the thing’s multi-dimensional form::

Langy: :: Hall yells at the others, pointing his revolver at the coils as he informs them of the important targets within the beast. :: “Take out the tesla coils! The circular, lightning-y things!”

Stetson: ::Fiona picks up on Hall’s information and lets off shots at the first generator node she sees::

GMTown: ::One of Fiona’s hasty rounds hits a coil and sparks flare brightly from the imbedded runes::

Langy: :: Leroy charges forwards, yelling ‘Leeeeerrroooy Jenkiiiiiins!’ at the top of his lungs as he blasts at Fiona’s target with his shotgun. ::

Billy Lee: ::Billy steps in front of the monstrosity, plants his feet firmly, fist balled up and shouts in incomprehensible words at the creature::

GMTown: ::Billy’s gibberish seems to have no effect on the Godling other than to attract it’s attention. It begins to drag itself around towards him on many tentacles::

GMTown: ::But Billy faces up to the creature and keeps shouting – and miraculously it begins to have an effect – the thing slows, as if dazed::

GMTown: ::Leroy-Hall charges in, determindly firing his Town-pattern shotgun at the node Fiona attacked::

GMTown: ::The node explodes, discharging crackling lambent energy, shading from an almost-unseeable ukltraviolet through to arc-light blue, deep into the creature’s being::

GMTown: ::The creature screams and writhes::

Langy: :: Dr. Hall fires off three of those big bullets at one of the remaining Tesla coils, not really expecting to hit, but not concerned about ammo conservation, either. ::

GMTown: ::Halls rounds miss the node but still impact something within the Godling’s multi-dimensional bulk::

GMTown: ::However, Billy’s mental assault has had some effect, because the thing edges back every pseudopod and tentacle it had been moving towards him and it recoils as if afraid of him::

GMTown: ((Init: Godling, Hall, Billy, Leroy, Fiona, Mort’s last round of stunned))

GMTown: ::The Godling rears up – and the energy blasts which had been moving around the room concentrate and blast at the puny beings attacking it!::

GMTown: ::Billy lifts his Macha medallion, which absorbs all the power directed at him and then shatters into silvery dust::

Langy: :: Hall’s mind surges into the future to perfectly place the next few shots… ::

GMTown: ::the coil blows up under Hall’s fusilade, blasting at the Godling with eldrich energy::

GMTown: ::the creature reacts violently, writhing in agony and actually losing a fragment of its bulk, which begins to boil and bubble as if it were grease on a griddle::

Billy Lee: ::Billy charges forward, saying a prayer to Annexia::

Billy Lee: This message has been removed.

Stetson: ::Fiona drags up vast reserves of Will and prepares a Banishing::

Langy: :: As Leroy falls to the ground, knocked unconscious from his massive wounds, the spirit form of Doctor Hall leaps out of his body, two blades of spirit energy forming out of his arms as he falls down upon the elder god… ::

GMTown: ::His spirit blades flashing, Spirit-Hall carves into the Elder God’s flank, slicing of chunks of it’s being which begin to bubble and deliquesce::

Billy Lee: ::Billy charges forward, screaming in pain when he stumbles to the ground from the pain. With blood seeping from his ears and eyes, he squirms in pain on the ground.::

GMTown: ((Inits: Mort and Orson, Spirit Hall,, Fiona & Godling, Billy incapacitated by agony))

Mort: ::Ears ringing with the gibbering of otherworldly beings, Mort clings to the last words he heard before insanity descended on his mind. Pulling himself up from a kneel with Geimhreadh breathing his cold frost, Mort marches up the column of mist to plant his sword in one of the remaining eldritch nodes.::

Langy: :: Dr. Hall lines up another shot at the final Tesla coil, pulling the trigger three times in quick succession. ::

GMTown: ::Both remaining nodes explode under the assaults, sending rolling waves of incandescent energy through the beast’s form in a feedback loop::

GMTown: ::Mort is thrown several feet by the blast, but his sword, forged of heart-ice by the giants in long ages past, refuses to conduct the energy surge to its wielder::

GMTown: ::A massive part of the creature just dies – evaporated by the power surging through it.::

Langy: :: Hall’s spirit flows towards the elder fetus in a blur, his two spirit blades flashing and dancing upon its skin like an expert chef julienning his vegetables. ::

Langy: :: Unfortunately, many of the slices went after parts of the creature that it had shed as the result of the onslaught inflicted to it from the detonation of two of its birthing matrix’s Tesla coils. ::

Stetson: ::Fiona raises her hands towards the Godling, the Banishment jetting out in a flurry of unfurrling light::

Billy Lee: ::Billy screams in agony, clutching the ground as he grinds at the ground with his nails. He summons the strength to scream:: “ERLOSUNG!!!!”

GMTown: ::the Godling, desparate, reaches out towards Fiona with one huge pseudo-poddlike arm, extruding massive claws, and swipes at her::

Stetson: ::Fiona holds out her Chaperone medalion, which crumbles in her grasp at the Godling’s attack.::

GMTown: ((Init: Mort, Fiona, Spirit Hall, Hall & Godling, Billy still agonized))

Mort: “Blessed Mother, keeper of the Cycle, take the soul of Erlosung and give new life to our people. Bring life from his death and destruction to this fleshy form that has outlived its role in the fabric of the world”

GMTown: ::Eroslung, the Godling, recoils from it’s True Name spoken by a Horseman, and seems to shrink a little::

Stetson: ::Fiona lunges to get her Enfield from her shoulder::

Langy: :: Hall’s spirit form flashes once more as it dives its spirit-blades straight into the godling’s hide, down to his spirit-wrists. ::

Langy: :: Hall’s physical body fires three heavy slugs at the godling as his mind tries to search the creature for more weaknesses. ::

GMTown: The Godling gathers itself, sucking at every lifeforce it can reach once again::

GMTown: ::but fails to latch on to any of its assailants::

GMTown: ((Inits: Godling & Fiona & Mort, Hall, Spirit Hall))

Stetson: ::Fiona fires at Erlosung::

Mort: ::Mort prays in his ragged whispers:: “Mother, take Erlsung’s essence – give it a new life with a purpose other than destruction. I plead of thee.”

GMTown: ::In desperation, the Godling applies its power – and a cleft in the very fabric of reality begins to form. The ground begins to shake, an earthquake in truth::

Langy: :: Hall takes a moment to calm his mind and evaluate the condition of the creature, trying to find any more weakpoints to target… ::

GMTown: ::On pure intuition, Hall targets the area of the beast already oozing into the warp in an attempt to break free from the Town’s confines::

Langy: :: Orson yells at the top of his lungs. :: “Aim for the escape to the warp!”

Langy: :: Hall’s spirit form, hearing this and unbothered by the physical shaking of reality, switches targets in mid-slice, coming down upon the parts of the creature escaping reality. ::

GMTown: ::Billy, gritting his teeth against the pain, lurches to his feet::

GMTown: ((Inits: Godling and Spirit Hall, Mort, Billy, Hall, Fiona))

GMTown: ::the Godling begins to coalesce, taking upon itself the shape of a man, dressed in yellow robes, as it moves purposefully towards the rift, ready to step through in the next instant::

GMTown: This message has been removed.

Langy: :: Hall’s spirit form reaches out and grabs hold of the escaping eldritch monster encased in the form of a man, forcing his own will upon its spirit essence. ::

GMTown: ::Hall’s spirit merges with the robed form and it halts in its tracks as his mind is flooded with the incalculable knowledge of an Elder Godling::

GMTown: ::In an instant, he understands that the name is old german and means “Salvation” – and how that salvation can be attained::

GMTown: ::Hall manages to compartamentalize the mind of the Godling, sheltering his own spirit from being blasted by it’s cosmic insanity::

GMTown: ::But at the same time, he’s locked in place – unable to access enough of the Godling to move – although he can now use it’s massive power to mentally communicate with others::

Langy: :: The Elder Newborn grunts in place as Hall fights to retain control just long enough to settle the score. As he speaks, you hear his Voice in your heads like a massive drumbeat. :: “Call my Name, Horseman! Call my Name!”

Mort: ::For the first time, compelled by the divine, Mort speaks above a whisper and his flames roar to the rafters:: “ERLOSUNG

GMTown: ::Like the tolling of an unseen bell, Mort’s words ring out across more than just the power station’s chamber – resonating through space and time. Hall’s spirit, now a part of the Godling, chooses not to resist the call on it’s behalf and in stremers of energy, the robed form dissolves into tatters then disappears – leaving the kernel of Hall himself alive to flash back to his body::

GMTown: ::The rift, unbound by the Godling’s power, unfolds like an origami flower and expands across space-time as it passes through the walls of the power station::

GMTown: ::Then, all is quiet, and still:

GMTown: ::the myriad Shades are gone – and Mort can sense they have passed to their respective rests. ::

Stetson: ::Fiona let’s out a war-whoop, and leaps in the air, punching at the air in barely contained elation.::

GMTown: ::Outside, through the quiet, you can hear a buzzing noise. It takes the mortals a moment of panic to identify it – some kind of light airplane, somewhere high overhead::

Langy: :: Hall, body and spirit once more one, collapses down to hands and knees in exhaustion. ::

Billy Lee: ::Billy stumbles over to Leroy’s body, hoping he can do something for his friend.::

Stetson: ::Fiona moves over to Leroy’s body and takes the Timer-Turner, knowing that the Chamber would really want it confiscated::

Mort: ::Mort’s body is racked in the elation of godly power – part of the passing of a divine essence even greater than the hunt of a dragon to return its soul to the Earth. Liquid flame dripping down his armor like wax as his body quakes uncontrollably in the darkness of the now powerless room::

Stetson: ::Fiona then turns to everyone present:: “Now, gentlemen, I think it best if we speak to the Black Chamber as soon as possible. If we don’t, they might assume that we had a hand in the disaster, rather than the one’s who squashed it. But for now, we need to see to the survivors.”

Kudos to my players for a truly amazing session, a fitting climax to an awesome story arc they drove forward the whole time. Next (last) session will be an Epilogue, paving the way for a new Beyond The Veil campaign next Summer.
