The morning is upon us, the attack starts today. I have been in a few fights. A few were even for real blood. This is the real thing. Lives lay on the line and I’m sure some will be lost. On top of that we are to be the hammer that sounds the death nails of Selenys the Nethermancer.
Thorin showed us to his parent’s old dwelling, a cave that had not been used after the death of his mother. It was quiet and musty with a hint of sadness in the lingering energy. The spirit of Baran Kuyu could not be seen. None of us knew how to call a spirit and in this realm you can talk to them like people. I pulled the hammer of Darren Kuyu off my back and yelled “Baran Kuyu we wish to speak to you.” And I slammed the great hammer to the floor with a sounding boom.
The whisper came. It was deep, gruff and quiet. Baran Kuyu demanded “Were did you get that?” I told him that we had taken things from the grave of Darren Kuyu but our need had been great.
We asked him about his assault on the strong hold of Selenys. He was reluctant to help, but we told him that we were trying to help his people escape and that seemed to bring him around. His story was not much help. It seems that this great warrior lost his nerve. His people were attacked by the large krilla worms and they hid in a cave. Were he starved to death rather than face death on his feet. So we left the spirit with his son.
Shortly after that we left their cave to attack the stronghold with the entire encampment. Men, women, children were dressed for war, they even took all of there live stock. We traveled the caves twisting and turning till we were taken on a different path than the rest we were shown to a rope bridge that had seen better days. We decided that Urgral and Vridich would go first being some of the lightest. A rope tied them together. Urgral made a miss step about 30 yards out and plummeted through the bridge. Vridich clung to the guide rope as Urgral scrambled back up the rope connecting them. I and others were running out on to the bride to help all of us were shouting. I’m sure that is what attracted the krilla. It dived out of the sky and before any one could get ready it struck Vridich with 3 hard strikes from tentacle that came out of its back end. Vridich yelled not to fight back and then went slack. He had used a ne spell that he had told us about and took over the mind of the worm. Every one else seemed to get over the bride with out much problem except my friend Dremnin. He fell through 3 times and finally had to be carried by the krilla worm.
Vridich started to carry people to the strong hold with the krilla worm. First he took Dremnin, then Luck and my self. When I arrived I did not see Dremnin any where. Luck saw that there was a Krilla flying over head, so we hid against one of the two red columns, buy using my red cloak. Just then Dremnin showed up with our Krilla, which dropped him off and flew away. Dremnin tried to use the column to stay hidden as well but the krilla saw him and attacked. Dremnin started to give ground and baited the krilla in to a perfect ambush position. It attacked Dremnin and scored some hits. Then it was our turn. Luck shot out from under the cloak and gashed open a large wound on the right wing joint that sent the krilla in to a spasm of pain. I then ducked low spun under the right wing and landed a solid hit to the body of the worm with the great hammer. The two blows sent the krilla in to a shaking fit of pain. I saw Demnin cover my left side and attack the worm. Just after the battle was joined our krilla worm showed up and dropped off Hanna and Suulin. Suulin Whirled a bolo at the beast as it fled from combat realizing it had not found an easy meal.
When the last of our party arrived we went in to the strong hold, just in to the stairway leading in. We took a moment to bind wounds and rest. When we all felt better we moved in to the first hall way. It was large with 3 new directions left, right, and strait. There was a small river of what looked like blood flowing from right to left. When we stepped out in to the hall there was a shout from the right hall and several large men started to charge. Urgral and I went to the right to meet the challenge. Luck was covering our left but watching the hallway that went strait. As the men came charging in something was thrown from behind me that hit one of the men and exploded in a blast of blood and gore. It seemed to have no effect and battle was joined. The first man to get to Urgral and I never stood a chance. Urgral connected with a solid hit on him followed by my hammer knocking him down and I’m sure breaking some ribs. I then knew that Vridich was with us when the glowing light struck the downed man causing his head to exploded spraying blood and grey matter around the room. Then the rest of the men joined the battle. Men were on all sides of us punching and screaming. Urgral and I were back to back, there was no room for fancy moves just blocking and striking. When the final man was knocked out we could hear that there was still battle in the other hall.
Urgral and I moved to fill out the battle line that our Party members were starting to form. I saw that Dremnin and Suulin were dragging Luck out of the combat he appeared to be knocked out. As I took my place on the left flank of the line I could see that there were two opponents. One was a man that had a sword and shield. He was not like the other men we had faced you could tell this one had skill and was dangerous. The other was a two headed construct that was huge and bulged with muscle, but work totally on instinct. Suulin was holding them off with her arcane muttering spell. When the spell dropped the construct charged running flat out and the battle was joined with a furious exchange. No quarter was given to the two attackers.
We moved forward down a stair way. I could smell a coppery odor. As we came out of the stair well we were on a large balcony looking over a large cavern that had a lake of blood. There were hundreds of large skulls carved in to the rock walls with blood pouring out of there mouths into the lake.
While we stood there looking over the mind numbing sight, Hanna began to swoon. She then started to vomit, it was not normal sick. It started to take shape. It was some kind of horror that started to shape like a huge brain. It was the size of a large horse cart. We began pounding it with weapon blows. There were many cuts and large bruises across the front of it. Then with out warning it lunged over the edge of the balcony to fall in to the lake of blood and it sank below the surface. Urgral was so intent on killing it he almost dived in to lake after it. Dremnin had to hold him back from the edge.
Dremnin then led us through some ruff tunnels. Twisting and turning, Dremnin never faltered it was like he knew exactly where he was going. Further in to the tunnels we went and then we found a ramp going down. We came out on to a ledge that led right up to the edge of the blood pool. We could see that there was another room on the other side but there was no way to get there with out swimming or wading through the blood. After testing the depth to find out that it seemed to be about neck deep on most of the party, we decided to take a quick break to figure out our option.
