Comadreja Saltworks
The Comadreja Saltworks is an underground salt mine on Blackwood, located within the current SNS quarantine zone.
Pumping stations work to keep the mine free of water so that the miners can crush and retrieve the vast stores of subterranean rock salt.
Partially refined salt is then loaded onto scows for transport to Downriver. Trucks are also used to transport salt on the Mine Road, when the overland routes aren’t flooded.
At full strength, the mine employs 400 workers, mostly drawn from the nearby communities of Mission Hill and Sawtooth Crossing.
The mine is administered by Philip Wong, one of Magistrate Martinez’s most trusted associates.
