Martinez Manor
A sprawling monument to self indulgence, Martinez Manor is a large, gaudy compound located in the heart of the town of Downriver.
This is Martinez’s second attempt at building a mansion worthy of his stature as Magistrate of Blackwood, and any architectural restraint shown in the design and construction of Government House went right out the window when he sat down to design his dream home.
The main buildings are surrounded by tiered courtyards, many of which are festooned with tacky fountains, garish topiary, and lots and lots of cobblestones. The mansion is finished in bright white, as befitting a salt baron.
If the compound looks like it was built on the backs of indentured labourers, that’s because it was.
