Underground mine
The salt mine has four levels, cut into the salt deposit along horizontal drifts. A central mine tunnel with a rail track laid down it branches off at regular intervals into areas that are being hollowed out by miners. The rail track leads to a central core shaft at far end of the line. Winches and cage lifts can transport miners, mine carts, or other vehicles to the lower levels, which are laid out in an identical fashion along the four compass points, to prevent an overall weakening of the ground that would otherwise cause the upper levels of the deposit to collapse onto the lower levels.
Emergency shelters are located at regular intervals, as are vertical ventilation columns, with ladder rungs built into the shafts.
