Ledaal Ariko discovers that Kialu Tiaga’s secret rendevous is with a solar anathema, one callig himself Venerable Shadow, the same one that saved Ariko years ago. Mnemon Alcyone and Bella both learn the truth, and both seem willing to keep the secret. The next morning sees Peleps Hix attempt a dangerous demon summoning as they embark, one that drives Alcyone to swear off the venture and leave the ship. When she returns at the prompting of Ariko she takes matters into her own hands, bargaining with the demon Florivet to ensure the safety of her friends.
