An invincible pillar of might for thousands of years, the Empire of Lon has only begun to show weaknesses over the last several centuries—weaknesses that other nations are more than willing to exploit.

Prehistory & Mythology

Lon is an incredibly old empire, so old in fact that many historians place its actual age at somewhere around five or six thousand years. What few Dragons are willing to hold discussions with humans often corroborate this fact, saying that Lon was easily the first form of organized civilization they ever remember seeing.

The Rig Veda explains that the world was created when Aris, the Lonnic God, reached down to the bottom of the ocean, pulled up a large handful of sand, and spread it across the endless waters. This made Hyboria and all the surrounding islands, including places like Odara and St. Brendan's. Humans were created as their own species, along with all the others, though these were made to be aware of Aris, and to be his servants.

Approximately 2.8 thousand years ago, the King of Lon decided that a new form of communication would be valuable to the empire, and commissioned his best scholars to invent a system of non-verbal communication. What they invented was a very simple alphabet capable of rudimentary communication, but it was the first step. The first thing to be written was of course the Rig-Veda, though history followed shortly after.

History of the Lonnic Empire

Lon immediately began a campaign to spread their god's holy word, armed with their new writing system. Heading west, to the only non-Lonnic regions (namely Badonia and the Mohenjo Daro Valley), the Lons were met with constant disappointment. By the time the Lons arrived in Badonia, they found that the Badonians had already established their own writing system that was more complex and powerful that theirs, and had no interest in joining a major theocratic empire anytime soon. Missionaries sent to the Valley did not fare much better, as they were confronted by people who followed paganistic faiths, and possessed too chaotic of a worldview to appreciate life under imperial reign.
