Nightmares

November 24, 2012 18:03

NightmaresCreine Zephyr is in a forest and about ready to fight his mentor, Offock, and his father. Finnan Keen is in chains, while Sir Samuel Heinrich and his bodyguard watch over him. Titan is in a strange place, surrounded by two shadow versions of himself. Titan becomes overwhelmed quickly, but realizes that all of this is in his head and he clears his head to find the minotaur’s ax in his chest. With the wizard down, the rogue becomes bloodied and clears his head of the illusion. He witnesses Titan bloody on the ground and Creine still swinging his ax around madly. Eventually, the warlord shakes off the powerful illusion and looks around at the damage he has done.

Recovering from their wounds from each other, the adventurers find the shifter tribe thanking them and taking them down to the center of the village. The shifters send some of their tribe to get Bombor, who still is waiting outside the forest with Ajenta Summerwind (R.I.P.)’s body. Other shifters burn the bodies of their fellow tribesmen on a large pyre. The party is invited to join them in their mourning, then they feast afterwards, and are then escorted to a tent where they can rest. They awaken the next morning and the shifters give them some treasure and magical tattoos. After this, the group travels to their next destination.

After arriving at the militaristic town of Weltall, the party shows their dwarven rings to meet with the ruler. They are taken to the barracks to rest from their travels, when the steward of Gini Godbronze tells them that his lord will not be seeing them today. Just then, two formidable soldiers walk up to the group and ask them to join them in marching into the Ice Vale. Tricepatops “Tri” and Ruby Swifthammer even have the steward give the party money to sweeten the deal. After some complaining from the warlord, the group accepts the two new allies into their small mercenary band.

Travelling to the Ice Vale, the party passes some dwarven forts and finally reaches the forward encampment. Checking their gear and clothing, the group ventures forth into the increasingly cold Ice Vale. Everyone braves the icy, cold weather quite well on this first hike. Suddenly, monsters formed of pure ice block their path.

Ice, Ice BabyThe party has a lot of trouble with this battle, since it seems the warlord is not on his game. Luckily, the orc fighter steps up and starts hacking away at the ice beasts with ease. Titan hits the creatures with his go to Magic Missles, while Finn flings shurikens across the battlefield. Ruby hits a couple times with her throwing hammers, but really nails them with her warhammer. Eventually, even the flying ice creatures are crushed.

After this skirmish, the group again fights against the elements. This time the warlord succumbs to the cold and loses some of his endurance. Rounding a bend, the adventurers come up against a large party of ice warriors.

Ice To See YouHumanoids of pure ice are littering the area. Ruby, foolishly, runs right into the center and gets swarmed. Titan fires away with his Fireball, which seems to melt the monsters quickly. Tri tries to cross a sheet of ice, but falls down hard and can’t seem to get back on his feet the rest of the fight. The warlord, rogue, and ranger miss on most of their attacks throughout the battle. After an overly long fight, the last ice warrior is broken.

The group fails to brave the cold after the fight, but come across an alcove in the rocky cliffs along their path. The party rests here and builds a fire. Finn sings a merry song and Ruby regals them in ancient battle stories. The group fills uplifted and strengthened from all this, so they move on and can see the Frostspire in the distance. Finn tries to scout ahead, but a blizzard blocks his view. The warlord leads them around the tower to the rear, where the land dives down into the ocean. Finally, the party approaches the front doors of the tower. A Sphinx flies down from above and gives the party the Sphinx’s Challenge. The party does very well and the sphinx flies away. The group enters the tower and scours the area. They find some treasure, but must now ascend the stairway…
