House Spiritus
House Spiritus is an ancient house, existing as an entity long before the Empire. In the dawn of human memory, three gods made themselves known to the thirteen wisest members of the new race. Five were in commune with the Father, five learned the ways of the Mother, and three sequestered themselves in the shadows whispering with the Stranger. It was these thirteen who brought the gods to the people. They traveled the lands performing miracles and spreading the truth of the Three. Every ten years they would meet in they Shining Valley of Odessa to sit at the feet of their gods and learn from them once more.
For 2000 years this was the way of things and worship of the gods spread throughout the lands and took root in the many tribes and newly forming kingdoms. Worship of the Three replaced the false tribal gods of many tribes and even the Pantheon now worshiped in the Southern Empire.
At that time, the Three in their wisdom passed on knowledge of future dangers that the world was going to face if the lands remained fractured as they were. The high priests went to the many rulers of the lands to ask them to come together under one Emperor, as this was the only way to escape the destruction of all Humankind. All, save one king, laughed at the priests. Titus Siptus Galbadon heard the priests words and was swayed.
Using a combination of diplomacy and military tactics* the Avitian Empire was establish and the Priests formed House Spiritus. And thus the people were unified under one religion and one ruler.
House Spiritus has remained a strong and unified house all throughout its history – until recent times. The House began showing signs of internal struggle when the lesser priests were given permission to allow families to return to worshiping their ancestors, as long as the Three were included. This ancestral worship spread and soon different families bound themselves together and started to worship the ancestors of a single family. Before long, House Spiritus had accepted the deification of four new gods.
Most recently, House Spiritus seems to be undergoing a civil war of sorts. With the deification of Padashar Emperor Shahadinius Galbadonand and his claim to be the most powerful of all the gods, almost one third of the house began proclaiming the dawning of a new age, an age where the gods take on mortal form to rule as emperor. It is their belief that the gods of the past have given their powers to the Emperor, and all should worship him.
Soon thereafter, backed by House Galbadon, this sect of House Spiritus has begun to persecute those who do not hold to the Emporor’s divine nature; even those of House Spiritus who do not believe have been known to have been publicly flogged for their heresy. Due to this allegiance with House Galbadon, the sect has become the ruling ideology within House Spiritus. With the formation Ideology Committees, it does appear that a new age for the Empire is dawning.
