Zyf's Journal Part 33
For your reading pleasure, here is chapter 33 of the Journals of Zyf, devoted of Myn
An Ancient Enemy
“We meet again, old foe,” said the gargantuan goat-headed creature, “you think your petty enchantments will keep me here long? Soon enough I will be free from this pathetic underground cavern, and I will stretch my wings wide as I devour the lands above and destroy you and yours!!”
Zyf casually strolled up to the imprisoned demonic beast and while he barely stood as tall as the creature’s ankle, his bearing made it appear as though he were addressing an equal, nay, an inferior.
“I will release you now if that is your desire,” said Zyf in barely a whisper. “You, in your arrogance, consider this a prison; whereas I consider it a mercy. If Myn wishes you destroyed, it shall be done. Merely say the word, and I will dissolve the bonds that hold you here, but be forewarned, your destruction is at hand.”
And the two locked eyes for the briefest of moments, but in that instant, the demon saw something that made it look away.
“Nay, nay,” it replied less boastfully, “I am content. Farewell, Zyf, devoted of Myn.”
“Farewell to you,” replied the imposing cleric with proper courtesy. “I’ll just take this trinket with me,” he said as he removed the magical staff being used as a focus and scattering the festering entrails. “But, I’ll be back one day; be you ready for your reckoning!”
By the time Zyf left the cavern, sealed the entrance, climbed out of the pit and disposed of the rest of guards, the rest of the Talons had reached the mansion.
“Thank goodness, Zyf,” said Flann, “we’ve been lookin’ all over for ye. ‘Twas a good thing Emma here spotted you chasin’ that harlot or we would never ha’a found ye.”
“Well it helped that Zyf’s awesome magic restored my sight so well; I haven’t seen this clearly since I was a teenager,” replied Emma. “But, Smuj is still stricken. He’s conscious but also blind and deaf.”
“No worries, stand back all,” said Zyf brandishing the magical staff of healing he had retrieved from the nether catacombs, “this will undue that nasty business.”
