The hold that Mercantilism built!
Wooden walls surround this poorly defended stretch of highway with a huge population, generally swelled by people wandering on the old roads, living in tents, lean-tos and some wooden walled buildings. It resembles nothing so much as a post-apocalyptic castle, surrounded by fields where the population partakes in rudimentary farming and hunting. Those lucky few with means of transportation, fixed up bicycles, and the rare automobile, venture further afield, though never without an armed escort, to scavenge anything that can be of use for sale in the market. The armory is kept full of shitty makeshift “weapons,” and most instruments capable of dealing significant damage are held by private interests. More than 1 in every 5 people is employed by the hold in its large gang of toughs, and while they aren’t particularly well armed, and they don’t have much to defend, they do a passable job collecting jingle for The Taxes in exchange for the resident’s rights to dwell within the hold walls. And most of the scratch makes its way up the appropriate channels. The Nasdaq is the local bar and brothel.
- 200-300 souls.
- For gigs, a mix of hunting, crude farming, scavenging, manufacturing and a protective tribute (surplus: 2-barter, want:disease, want:obligation, want:idle).
- A makeshift compound of mostly tents, lean-tos and wooden walls.
- An armory of scavenged and makeshift weapons. The armory is for shit.
- A gang of about 60 violent people (2-harm gang medium 1-armor).
