In the year 1735 (timeline) two years prior to present day Adair Drumfell sent five members of the first generation of Dunathal into the foothills south of the village to check on a friend.
Sepha Doeheart was an elderly scholar who kept to himself for the most part in a cabin at the base of the Rooi Mountains. Once a month he ventured down to Dunathal for supplies, often enough that he had made a few friends in the village. So when three months passed without a visit from Sepha a few of the shop owners came to Adair hoping to check up on the "old man".
Stretched thin by the menial task of running a village Adair sought his young apprentice Chorty Lee Jones and a few of his friends for the mission. They were to travel to the foothills and check up on Sepha. Chorty enlisted Guinness Stouten, Qira Coppergold, Flurry Deadfall and Kythri Meadowgrove for the trip and try as he might could not wake Ripley for the journey.
When the group arrived at the cabin they found it oddly quiet, but proceed through Sepha's garden until they came across a group of kobolds milling about outside of his front door. While making quick work of the guard detail the kobolds inside were alerted to their presence. The fight continued ultimately ending with the death of a kobold wyrmpriest inside Sepha's bedroom.
A quick search turned up the old man's corpse rotting in his bed, disfigured by a week of kobolds eating his flesh. Searching the kobold lackies resulted in nothing of value, but on the wyrmpriest they discovered an ancient draconic text. Chorty, being the only member of the party to speak draconic, attempted to decypher it's contents, but failed to do so because of the age of the tome.
Returning to Dunathal they went straight to the Hall of Records and asked an archivist translate the book. He told them it held ancient rituals of immense power that should be kept safe from the rest of the world. The archivist locked up the tome and asked the party to speak to no one of what they had found.
