Kensing_info
Roland’s Research Royal History You find a few books regarding history of the noble families of Kensing. As always, they are somewhat out of date (none younger than 5 years). However, you still manage to get some information. All times listed are calculated from the present day.
a.. The King, Levitus VI, ruled Kensing for 60 years, since the age of 20.
b.. Before him was his father Levitus V. Both men were regarded as able, if not spectacular rulers
c.. Duke Harcourt a.. 38 yrs old b.. Has ruled Nent for only 10 years c.. Nephew to the deceased king. His mother was the king’s cousin d.. Many books harshly criticize him for his distrust of magic and magic-users e.. Very martial and disciplined; respected and feared on the battle-field f.. Seen as a lone-wolf, whose eagerness to fight endangers the country. Luckily, his county borders on Argan and he usually turns his blood-lust on them rather than his fellow countrymen.
d.. Baron Edwards a.. 45 years old b.. his great-great-grandfather was the king (of the time)’s brother c.. married to a woman named Shaella, but no info exists on her, not even her race d.. criticized for his preferential treatment of arcane spellcasters, but criticism is muted and mild e.. on many occasions, his elite troops, the Body of Death have been the deciding factor in various battles
e.. Baron Oglethorpe a.. 42 yrs old b.. Deceased king’s 2nd cousin (father’s side) c.. Married and widowed twice (under suspicious circumstances) d.. Has a 20-year old daughter e.. Lampooned as a fat, lazy glutton who spends his time eating, drinking, and lounging around f.. One book even goes so far as to accuse Oglethorpe of being insane
f.. Duke Killingsworth a.. 28 yrs old b.. Current Duke, Matera, was adopted into the Killingsworth family 10 years ago, before that, his history is unknown c.. Killingsworth rules Maldavia, a county known for its high dwarven population. Some members of the Killingsworth family are dwarves, via marriage. d.. Some authors question Matera’s ability to lead, since he is of unknown heritage and probably not of noble blood
Laws of Succession None of the books has any info on laws of succession. There is some mention of such laws existing, but despite your efforts, you cannot find any mention of exactly what the rule of law is.
Surrounding Lands Argan
a.. Kensing’s neighbor to the east
b.. Governed by a rough association of clans that band together for mutual defense (think Braveheart’s Scotland).
c.. Often has border skirmishes with Kensing, mostly in and around Nent.
Mainland
a.. To the east, across a small channel (about 100 miles), is a much larger mainland continent.
b.. The mainland is much more racially integrated than Kensing. There are large settlements of Gnomes, Elves, Halflings, and Dwarves. In many cases these settlements are racially integrated
c.. In addition, there are smaller settlements of savage humanoids (orcs, gnolls, goblins, etc) that roam and cause trouble.
d.. Kensing has always pursued a rather isolationist policy with regards to the mainland and tries to stay out of their stuff
e.. The isolation policy also helps to explain why Kensing is less racially integrated
Garendil
a.. To the west, across many miles of treacherous ocean, lies the elven isles of Garendil
b.. Garendil is extremely isolationist and xenophobic, turning away most ships and only allowing a select few trade ships to dock in specified ports
c.. Very little is known about the lands or its inhabitants
